COMPLETE RESULTS
MOSCOW, Idaho—Senior sprinter Mariana Toscano set a new school record in the women’s 400 and turned around to anchor the school’s 1,600-meter relay team to the same feat to highlight Concordia track and field action at the Vandal Collegiate, hosted by the University of Idaho on Friday.
Opening her day, Toscano placed fourth overall in the open 400 with a school record 58.46.Her time not only registered as an NAIA Indoor Championship provisional qualifier but established a new school record I the event by chipping .36 off the previous mark of 58.94 set by Brittany Grizzard in 2006.
To end the meet, Toscano provided the fourth and final leg of the women’s 1,600 relay which took third place with a time of 3:54.87, a time which knocked off close to nine seconds on the school’s previous best in the event. The mark also changed the quartet’s provisional standing to an automatic entry into the national championships by easily eclipsing the NAIA ‘A’ standard.
Joining Toscano on the record run were Siara Leininger, Stephanie Persaud and Catherine Sims.
Persaud was also a double record breaker by clipping the women’s 60-meter dash mark by .02 with an NAIA provisional time of 7.94.
The women’s team also received a provisional mark in the triple jump as Danielle Ferguson leaped 36-2 3/4 to flirt with the school record of 37-3 3/4.
The men’s team recorded a pair of ‘B’ standards as KC Vaughn cleared 15-1 in the pole vault and Charles Cummings crossing the line in the mile with a 4:19.12 clocking. The school record holder in the men’s vault, Seth Cordell, added a sliver to his CU best of 16-1 3/4 by soaring 16-2 in a sixth-place finish.
