Cavs Sink Owls in Second Half

PORTLAND, Ore.—Holding Oregon Tech to jkust seven field goals in the second half, Concordia defeated the Owls 64-50 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball on Friday night.
With the win and one game left in the regular season, Concordia rests in a tie for seventh place in league play with an overall record of 13-14 and 7-10 in CCC contests. OIT fell to 15-14 overall and 8-9 in conference matchups and will enter the final day of the season in fifth place in the CCC.
Concordia closes out the season at home against Southern Oregon while Oregon Tech stays in town to face Warner Pacific. Both women’s games are set for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
The Cavaliers opened up an early double-digit lead behind threes from Rachel Scarpelli and Megan Padilla, eventually putting the home team up 17-7 after five minutes of pay.
The Owls fought back and tied the game on a three by Morgan Hofman and would take their first lead of the game with the score 20-19 in their next possession as Brittany Cherry made the second of a pair of attempts from the free throw line with nine minutes left.
The two teams would square the contest on several occasions down the stretch before Concordia scored the final pints of the half to go up 31-28.
The Cavs would continue to roll at the start of the second with a 14-4 run to regain the double-digit advantage.
A Cherry layup with less than four minutes to go got the Owls back to within eight with the scoreboard showing 55-47 in favor of the Cavs, but behind .471shooting in the second half, Concordia would again extend its prominence to go on to the 14-poit win.
The Cavaliers finished the game shooting just .381 (24-of-63) but held the Owls to an ever lower .328 (19-of-58) conversion rate.
Scarpelli paced CU with a game-high 17 points, 12 of which came from the three-point line by hitting 4-of-6 from long range. Teammate Danielle Clauson added 12 points for her 17th straight double-digit scoring performance.
Cherry and Hofman each score 11 points for the OIT lead while Cherry added a game-high 12 rebounds for the ‘double-‘double’.
Both teams secured a total of 42 rebounds but OIT turned the ball over on 14 occasions to just 10 for the Cavs.
