BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore.—Opening up a big lead with a six-run fourth, Concordia held on to defeat George Fox 10-9 in non-conference baseball action at Joe Etzel Field on Saturday.

With the win, Concordia improved to 2-4 on the year while George Fox fell to 2-3. The two teams square off again on Sunday with an opening pitch set for 11 a.m.

Highlighted by a monster three-run homer by Sean Myrom, Concordia plated six runners in the sixth to go up 7-1.

The Bruins were able to cut into the deficit by scoring at least one run in the final four frames; scoring two runs in the sixth, three in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the ninth.

All three GFU runs in the seventh were of the unearned variety as the Bruins recorded just one hit, a two-run double by Josh Burch, but were aided by three walks and a CU error to move within a single run with the score 7-6. The Cavs, however, retaliated immediately with three runs in the home half of the inning with three hits and an error.

Dan Winterstein singled in a run and later scored on a balk in the eighth for George Fox and Stahl singled home another in the ninth, but the tying run was left at second as CU reliever Brett Ferguson got Anderson to ground out to the shortstop for his first save.

Jarrod Castrejon (1-0) started and went 5.2 innings for the Concordia win, striking out four and walking two. Mark Putney was touched for eight hits and seven runs while fanning four and walking one in taking the loss for the Bruins.

Andrew Reid collected four hits, Myrom three, and Nagy two for the Cavs, who finished with a dozen hits in all. Stahl had four of the Bruins’ 11 hits while Dan Winterstein and Burch had two apiece.
