Knights Cruise on Senior Night
PORTLAND , Ore. – Warner Pacific continued their torrid shooting in a 77-62 win over Oregon Tech in women’s basketball action tonight in C.C. Perry Gym.
The Knights have become efficient offensively, hitting for 56.4 percent (31-55) from the field tonight versus the Owls. The performance comes on the heels of a season best 57.7 percent last night versus Southern Oregon.
WP jumped out to a 10-3 lead five minutes into the contest and never trailed. Kelsey Mattsen gave the Knights an 11 point lead at the 7:57 mark with a jump shot which was the largest of the half. OIT’s Aundrea Albright cut the lead down to six with one minute to play before a Cameryn Calhoun score put WP up by 8 (29-21) at the break.
The visiting Owls came out fighting in the second half, drawing within four with 12 minutes to play thanks to one of Kelsey New’s 3 three pointers. Mattsen and Kristina Schumacher came alive at that point, each scoring 13 points in the period.
WP methodically stretched their advantage out to 10 points, and hit 6 for 6 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
Mattsen was the Knights top scorer with 21 points. Schumacher added 15 counters, and Stephanie Rider scored 8 points off the bench.
Four Owls finished the game in double figure scoring – Kellie Morey-Lewis (14), Aundrea Albright (13), Brittany Cherry (10), and Kelsey New (10).
Warner Pacific improves to 18-9 overall and 13-5 in CCC action. Oregon Tech drops to 15-15 and 8-10. Knight seniors Caitlin Morgan, Kristina Schumacher, Maya Gross, Stephanie Rider, Marissa Towry, Danica Wilson, and Kate Allen were honored before the game.
The Knights secured the #2 seed for the CCC Tournament, and will host Southern Oregon next Tuesday in a first round game. Tip-off will be at 7:30 pm.
