ASHLAND, Ore. -- The Northwest University men jumped out to a 22-8 lead to start the game and then had to hold on en route to a 90-82 victory over Southern Oregon tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

Northwest improved to 14-10 overall and 8-5 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon dropped to 11-12 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

Blake Solomon led all scorers with 25 points for Northwest.

Jarrad Childs led SOU with 18 points. Ryan Staker finished with 17 points, while Joe White had 12 points and Humphrey Jackson had 10 points.

The Eagles used the first nine minutes of the game to build a 22-8 lead after a 3-pointer by Solomon.

The Raiders spent the rest of half coming back, taking a 33-31 halftime lead despite shooting just 28 percent from the field for the half.

After numerous ties, the Raiders took a 48-46 lead with 12:12 to play.

After that, Northwest took over. Another 3-pointer by Solomon gave Northwest a 77-66 lead.

A barrage of 3-pointers pulled SOU within five at 87-82 with 13 seconds to play, But free throws by Northwest ended the game.

SOU hosts Evergreen State tomorrow night.
