BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. –Behind 12 points and a career-high 11 blocks from senior Ann Snodderly, Concordia dispatched Northwest Christian 73-62 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday night.

With the win, Concordia improved to 11-13 overall on the season and 5-9 in the CCC while NCU fell to 8-16 overall and 2-13 in league action.

Snodderly toppled her career-high of six blocks in the first half alone as she posted nine blocks in the opening period before finishing with 11 rejections, one shy of doubling her previous career best.

Snodderly’s tally fell four shy of Concordia’s single game best of 15 blocks set by Dalene DeWitz during the 1980-81 season.

Holding the Beacons to 24.4 percent shooting in the first half, CU opened with a 24-6 lead with 7:01 remaining to post their biggest lead of the game. Despite being held to just three field goals in the first 13 minutes of play, NCU responded in the final minutes of the half by receiving a pair of three-pointers from Lori Renner to stay within 10 at the break with the score 33-23.

The Beacons were able to cut the lead to five points on a Kelsey Atkins layup with 9:27 left to play, but could not keep pace with Concordia as the Cavs used balanced scoring to hold on for the 11-point win.

“We tried to shift up our defense and spread the ball around which paid off,” CU head coach Aaron Christian said. “We played a lot harder tonight and that attributed to our success. It’s the stuff we have been preaching all year and if we keep that effort up we will be in much better shape.”

Snodderly finished with 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds to finish two boards short of the non-traditional triple-double. Teammate Danielle Clauson registered a game-high 20 points after connecting on 8 of 12 from the floor. Rachel Scarpelli tied Snodderly with a dozen points and Rachel Bristow added 10 off the bench for CU.

Renner paced the Beacons with 17 points with nine coming via three-point territory, connecting on 3 of 6 from long range. Katie Collins scored 10 as the only other NCU player in double figures.

The Beacons shot just 35.2 percent in the game but were aided by 20 more attempts than their competitors, taking 71 shots to CU’s 51. The Cavs fired at a 54.9 percent rate including 6 of 13 (36.2 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. CU finished with a slight edge in overall rebounds with 40 caroms to NCU’s 35. The Beacons however, benefited from 17 rebounds at the offensive end.

Concordia returns to action on Feb. 12 when it travels to Northwest University while Northwest Christian will host CCC leaders College of Idaho.
