No. 11 Morgan Hofman Had a Career High 16 Points For Oregon Tech
Northwest Notches First Win at Oregon Tech
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech was held to just 27.1% shooting for the night, as Northwest University scored their first-ever win in Klamath Falls with a 73-56 victory over the Lady Owls tonight in Cascade Conference women’s basketball action.
With points hard to find in the beginning, Oregon Tech’s Kelsey New finally broke a 3-3 tie with a 3-pointer with 15 minutes to play in the first half. The visiting Eagles then came back to tie the contest at 10 each with 12 minutes on the clock.
Northwest took their first lead of the game on the next possession, but a Morgan Hofman trey, one of her three in the first period, gave the lead back to the Owls, 13-12. NU went on to build a six point cushion, but it was Hofman again connecting from long range that put the Owls back on top 20-19.
Erika Hornyak capped an Eagle 8-0 run with a jumper that gave NU its largest lead of the first period at 27-20. Oregon Tech’s Lisa Busch was then fouled on a 3-point attempt and sank all three free throws to close out the first half scoring, as the Owls found themselves down 27-23 at the break.
Hornyak started the Eagle second half with a 3-pointer that bumped the lead back to seven points at 30-23. Aundrea Albright quickly answered for Tech with a five footer that cut the deficit to 30-25. It was all Eagles from then on, as a 15-4 NU run pushed the visitors to a 45-29 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining.
Oregon Tech was able to get the game back within reach at 49-41, but the Eagles quickly built the lead back to double-figures and moved on for the 73-56 win
Morgan Hofman led Tech with a career-high 16 points to go with five rebounds. Aundrea Albright grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end and added 10 points for the games only double-double effort. The Owls did, however, set a school-record with 64 rebounds in the game, but 29 turnovers did not help the cause. The Northwest defense also held senior guards Kellie Morey-Lewis, Nicole Morgan and Lisa Busch to just 3-for-21 shooting on the night.
Jessica Wilkerson led all players with 22 points, including an 8-for-8 effort at the free throw line. Marielle McKean added 12 points and Erika Hornyak 10 points in the victory.
