Corban women's soccer has begun preparations for next season with the signing of six high school seniors for the 2010 campaign.
Corban's Recruiting Class Begins with Six Seniors
SALEM, Ore. – Fifteenth-year head coach Marty Ziesemer announced earlier today the signing of six high school seniors to Letters of Intent for the 2010 season, including a goalkeepers and five position players.
The Class of 2015 includes current high school seniors Alexis Beattie (Brea, Calif.), Michelle Clubb (Boise, Idaho), Rileigh Mankin (Manteca, Calif.), Tera McDonough (Boise, Idaho), Audrey Sullivan (Puyallup, Wash.), and Abigail Van Hoogen (Boise, Idaho).
“I am very excited about this first group of players that have committed to Corban,” said Ziesemer. “We have definitely enhanced our team in many ways from our goalkeeping to our scoring options. This is a quality group of young ladies who will enhance our team chemistry as well as our desire to compete on the field on a daily basis.
"Our conference continues to be more challenging every year with quality teams from top to bottom and this group will help us in continuing to compete for a top spot in the conference.”
Beattie, a 5-foot-7 goalkeeper from Whittier Christian High School, is finishing her senior season for the Heralds. Beattie has helped lead Whittier Christian to a conference championship with at 8-1-1 record that includes six shutouts and advancing to the CIF playoffs. A two-time all-league selection as a freshman and junior, Beattie was named Freshman of the Year following the 2006 season and earned the team’s Most Christ-like award once.
Along with her prep accolades, Beattie has also played at the club level for the Brea Blaze. With the Blaze, Beattie helped lead the team to a first-place finish in Coast Soccer League play and four tournament victories in 2009.
Clubb, a 5-foot-8 defender from Timberline High School, just concluded her senior season as she helped lead the Wolves to a win-loss record of 9-4-3 overall. Clubb helped guide Timberline to the 2009 5A girls’ state championships.
At the club level, Clubb competes for the Boise Capital Soccer Club and helped her GU17 team capture first place at the President’s Cup.
Mankin, a 5-foot-3 midfielder from Manteca High School, is preparing to begin her final season for the Buffaloes. As a junior, Mankin helped lead Manteca to a win-loss record of 13-7-2 and a fourth place finish in Valley Oak League play with a record of 7-5-2. Mankin led the Buffaloes in total points with 29, while finishing second on the team in both goals (11) and assists (7).
A two-time MVP and first-team All-Valley Oak League honoree, Mankin also helped lead her club team, the Modesto Ajax, to the Clovis Challenge Cup, Cerritos Memorial Challenge Cup, and US Club Region Premier Championship in 2009.
McDonough, a 5-foot-6 midfielder from Borah High School, helped lead the Lions to a win-loss record of 9-9-0 and a fourth place finish in league play. McDonough was named team captain prior to both her sophomore and junior seasons, while earning team Most Valuable Player and Leadership Award honors. At the conclusion of her senior season, McDonough earned 5A all-state honorable mention.
At the club level, McDonough helped lead Les Bois Soccer Association to four state championships, two regional titles, and a 2nd place finish at nationals.
Sullivan, a 5-foot-9 forward from Emerald Ridge High School, helped lead the Jaguars to a win-loss record of 18-1-0 as a senior that included an undefeated record in SPSL play at 16-0-0. In helping lead Emerald Ridge to the 4A state tournament as a senior, Sullivan was named the team’s Outstanding Offensive Player three times following the conclusion of her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Sullivan also finished as the two-time SPSL scoring leader with 57 points (21 goals & 15 assists) as a senior and 53 points (22 goals & 9 assists) as a junior. A three-time all-league first team recipient, Sullivan also earned a pair of Tacoma News Tribune All-Area First Team honors as a junior and senior. Audrey was also name 2nd team all state her junior and senior years. At the conclusion of her prep career, Sullivan finished as the all-time assists leader in Emerald Ridge High School history with 27 and second all-time in program history in goals scored with 50.
Along with her long list of accomplishments at the high school level, Sullivan also plays at the club level with the Maple Valley Marauders.
Van Hoogen, a 5-foot-10 forward from Borah High School, teamed with McDonough to help lead the Lions to a win-loss record of 9-9-0. As a senior, Van Hoogen scored 18 goals and handed out 10 assists en route to being named 2nd team all-conference.
Corban is coming off a 2009 season in which the Warriors finished 9-7-3 overall and third in the conference standings thanks to a 6-2-1 mark in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Warriors are slated to begin the 2010 season against cross-town rival and NCAA Division III member Willamette on September 1st at 5:00 p.m. at Sparks Field in Salem.
