Izaac Garsez had four hits in Yotes DH at UBC
VANCOUVER, B.C. - Home runs by Jared Arehart and Jye Lanphere, and a three-run double from Izaac Garsez helped The College of Idaho to a doubleheader split with No. 13 ranked British Columbia, as the hosts took the opener, 9-4, with the Yotes claiming Game 2, 7-1, at Thunderbird Park.
With the four-game split, the Yotes (15-7, 5-3 NAIA West) remain just one game back of UBC in the loss column in the league race.
The T-Birds (16-3, 10-2) broke open a 3-2 game in the opener with a five-run seventh inning, getting RBI singles from Sammy Starr and Alex White, along with a Sean Pisarski RBI double.
Mitch Dame took the loss for the Yotes, allowing a pair of unearned runs in three-plus innings of work. Arehart, Garsez and Lanphere each had two hits for The C of I, with Lanphere driving in three runs. Nic Lendvoy had three hits for UBC, with Brandon Kaye allowing just six hits in seven innings of work for the win.
In the nightcap, the teams played a scoreless duel into the fifth, when Arehart launched a two-out, two-run homer to put the Coyotes on the board. An inning later, Lanphere followed suit, depositing a ball over the left field wall to make it 3-0. Garsez broke the game open in the seventh, roping a two-out, three-run double.
It was enough for Bobby Wassmann, who worked out of bases loaded jams in the second and fourth innings - taking a shutout into the seventh, to pick up his fourth win. Lanphere, Garsez, and Diego Robles each had two hits for the Yotes, with White and Andrew Firth logged two hits for UBC.
The Coyotes return to action on Friday, opening a seven-game homestand with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. vs. Bethany University.
