FINAL RESULTS

SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Joey Duwe (Kingston, Wash.) brought home his second-ever collegiate tournament trophy thanks to a 1-over 73 Monday afternoon, as Corban's men's golf team finished second at the Willamette Invitational played at Creekside Golf Club.

After tying with Linfield's Tyler Nelson for medalist honors, Duwe's victory went to the score cards as the second-year Warrior captured the tournament title on the first playoff hole. According to the tournament rules, a tie was broken based on each player's score on holes ranked by handicap. Duwe's par on the fifth hole defeated Nelson's bogey giving the Warriors' top player his second win this season.

"Today's win was a good feeling since I had put together such a strong round," said Duwe. "I was a little anxious to find out what the final results would be today, but I was not too concerned as I knew that I had played a solid 18 holes of golf."

Duwe, who went played the front nine in two-over par 38 finished out his round with a 1-under par 35, outlasted a 33-player field and helped Corban to a runner-up finish behind Linfield's 'B' team by a mere four strokes. This is Duwe's fourth Top 5 showing this season, while finishing in the Top 10 six times during his sophomore campaign.

Corban's other three player's counting scores would all tie for ninth overall, as junior Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.), sophomore Michael May (Salem, Ore.), and sophomore Chris Dudley (Boise, Idaho) all posted 18-hole totals of 10-over 82.

Today's finish is May's first Top 10 showing this season, while Dudley has appeared in the Top 10 twice and Landis has made three appearances this season.

Rounding out Corban's players were junior Jared Rust (Palo Cedro, Calif.) and senior Jonathan McGuire (Canby, Ore.). Rust would conclude the tournament in a tie for 17th overall thanks to an 18-over 90, while McGuire would finish in a tie for 21st individually thanks to a 20-over 92.

Corban shot a combined team total of 31-over 319, which was a mere four strokes behind tournament winner Linfield. The NCAA Division III Wildcats' second team posted a combined team score of 27-over 315 led by Joel Rychard's 3-over 75, which was good enough for third place.

The team totals concluded with the final results showing third-place Willamette (53-over 341), fourth-place Lewis & Clark (60-over 348), fifth-place George Fox (62-over 360), and sixth-place Linfield 'A' (66-over 364).

Corban will return to the links on Monday & Tuesday, March 22nd & 23rd, for the opening Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament of the spring season – the Northwest Christian Invitational – at Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie River. Both days will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
