KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech exploded for 14 hits and 10 runs in the second game to earn a split with No. 15 College of Idaho to open up Cascade Conference play today at the Oregon Tech Softball Complex. The Yotes won the first game 4-1, with Oregon Tech winning the night cap 10-6.

Oregon Tech improves to 13-11 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. College of Idaho moves to 3-5 on the season and 1-1 in CCC play.

In game 2, Oregon Tech scored 2 runs in each of the first two innings then added one run in the third inning to lead 5-2. C of I then put up 4 runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead heading to the bottom of the fourth. Oregon Tech then exploded scoring 5 times in the bottom of the fourth inning off relief pitcher Jody Zilllner to take a 10-6 lead. Tech’s Becca Anderson got the win and improved to 3-4 after entering the game to get the 3rd out in the fourth inning. She pitched 3.1 innings of shut-out ball giving up just three hits and striking out 2 Yotes. Caylin LaPire fell to 1-3 on the season in picking up the loss for College of Idaho.

Oregon Tech was led by Jess Plummer and Kayde Shaeffer each with 3 hits along with Brittany Cherry, Ashleigh Larson, and Taylor Schmidt with 2 hits each. C of I was led by Nikki Shumway with 3 hits and Kristen Haugen with 2 hits. Kalie Kurdy also hit her 1st Homerun of the season for the Yotes.

In game 1, it was the Jody Zillner show, as the senior pitched 7 innings striking out 6 Hustlin’ Owls while giving up only 5 hits including a Bree Larson leadoff Homerun in the 6th to pick up her 2nd win of the season.

The Yotes scored 4 runs on 7 hits led by Caylin LaPire, Nikki Shumway and Jody Zillner who each had 2 hits. Zillner and Daniyelle Villard each homered for the Yotes.

Tech’s Taylor Schmidt fell to 6-3 in getting the loss pitching 5 innings while giving up 6 hits and 4 runs, 2 earned.

Oregon Tech will host Eastern Oregon University (7-1), (1-1 CCC) with a double-header planned to begin at 11:00 am at the OIT Softball Complex on the campus of Oregon Tech on Saturday, March 20th. No. 15 College of Idaho will travel to Ashland and play Southern Oregon University (5-11), (1-1 CCC) on Saturday, March 20th also at 11:00 am.
