ASHLAND, Ore. -- A big first inning of the second game helped lead the Southern Oregon softball team to a conference opening split with Eastern Oregon today at University Field in Ashland. The Mountaineers won the opener 7-1, with the Raiders coming back to take a 10-2 mercy-rule shortened nightcap.

Southern Oregon (5-11, 1-1) hosts College of Idaho Saturday at 11 a.m. Eastern Oregon (7-1, 1-1) travels to Oregon Tech.

In the second game, the Raiders wasted little jumping the Mountaineers.

Rayna Okimoto delivered a one-out triple to start the rally. Meghan Laughlin got the Raiders on the board with a single and Bailey Price and Jessica Flores delivered back-to-back singles to put the Raiders up 2-0.

Junior Sarah Wharton then unloaded on her second home run of the season, a deep shot over the wall in left to give the Raiders a 5-0 lead after the first.

In the second, Katie Moy led off with a single and scored on a double by Laughlin. Price then made it 7-0 with a run-scoring single.

The Raiders went up 9-0 after a pair of un-earned runs in the fourth and won it in the sixth with a single and two-base error by Price and a game-winning infield single by Wharton.

Junior Karri Johnson picked up her first win as a Raider, going six innings and allowing just five hits.

Price went 4-for-4 to lead the Raiders. Laughlin and Wharton both had two hits for SOU.

In the opener, Eastern's Jen McDonnell held the Raider offense to just four hits and got it down with the bat thanks to a home run and a double to score three of Eastern's seven runs.
