Katie Keeney signs her letter of intent to join Eastern Oregon volleyball.
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team announced the signing of Katie Keeney Monday.
Keeney is a 5-10 standout from Boise, Idaho. She will be graduating with honors from Cole Valley Christian School in June.
“We are very excited to have Katie as a member of our program,” EOU head coach Hailey Pearce said. “She is an extremely talented player that can help our team out.”
Keeney is the first signee for the new Mountaineer head coach. Pearce joined the Eastern staff on March 1.
Keeney was named second team All-Western Idaho Conference in her sophomore season with the Chargers. She made the All-Western Idaho Conference first team in her junior and senior seasons. This past year Keeney was named to a state all-star team.
Cove Valley finished the 2009 season second in the conference standings behind eventual Class 2A state runner-up, Nampa Christian.
“I chose Eastern because of the location, the campus, the team, and because I wanted to try something new,” Keeney said.
Keeney will be a Psychology major at EOU. The daughter of Dolan and Elisabeth Keeney would like to be a school psychologist after college.
The Mountaineers went 15-9 last season and finished third in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Eastern will have its spring workouts, and begin the 2010 season Aug. 27 at the Montana Tech tournament.
