Placing the top four players on the leaderboard, Concordia cruised to a team victory at the Northwest Christian Invitational held at the Tokatee Golf Course on March 22-23. Concordia (325-316-303—944) completed the 54-hole tournament with the low round of the tournament by carding a 15-over 303 on Tuesday.
The Cavaliers led from the gate after firing a 325 in the opening round to create a 12-stroke gap over The College of Idaho (337-345-346—1,028) and would eventually pull away for the 84-stroke win.
The host Beacons of Northwest Christian (387-370-378—1,135) finished in third place and Corban (430-422-446—1,298) finished in fourth as the team order did not change after the opening round of play.
Sitting in fifth and sixth place through the first 18 holes, Concordia’s Lindsay Aho (82-76-75—233) and Holly Speer (83-78-72—233) tied for medalist honors, each at 17-over. Aho used a 4-over 76 in the second round to climb to the top position with one round to go while Speer registered the tournament’s lone round of par 72 in the finale to cut the three-stroke deficit to climb from fourth to first.
Tying for third place, Sara Taylor (80-80-79—239) and Madeline Jarrett (80-82-77—239) both finished with 239s to round out the CU scorers.
One stroke back of the Cavalier duo, Ashley King led NCU (81-81-78—240), edging C of I’s top finisher in Cecelia Garcia (76-83-83—242) by two strokes. Coyote teammates Jocelyn Cracroft (88-89-81—258), Breanna Pace (85-85-94—264) and Mandy Greif (88-90-89—267) placed seventh and eighth and tenth, respectively, while NCU’s Shelby Gabrielson (92-85-89—266) broke the top 10 with a 266 to finish in ninth, a total that included a career-low 85 in the second round.
The CCC teams will next face off at the C of I Invitational held at River Bend Golf Course in Wilder, Idaho on April 12-13.
Holly Speer joined teammates Lindsay Aho and Madeline Jarrett as the only players in school history to record a 72.
