Oregon Tech Sweeps Simpson in Baseball
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech baseball team came from behind in both games of today’s doubleheader with Simpson University to claim a 5-4 win in game 1, while a six run eighth inning in the nightcap gave the Owls an 8-3 victory.
Game 1 went extra innings after both Oregon Tech and Simpson were tied 4-4 after seven complete. Tech’s Zach Earle singled and stole a base to start the bottom of the eighth inning. Cory Staniforth then drove a pitch off the left field wall to send Earle home and seal the victory, 5-4.
Matt Bellando went the distance to improve to 5-4 on the year, while striking out five and scattering seven hits. Trent Smith and Ryson Mauricio finished the opener with two hits each, while Mauricio added a double and two RBI.
After trailing 3-2 in the night cap, the Owls erupted for six runs in the eighth inning to take control of the game and held off a Simpson rally to win by an 8-3 final.
Shea Bedortha pitched eight innings to pick up the win and move to 5-0 on the season.
Oregon Tech improves to 18-14 on the season and leads the NAIA West South Division with a 10-3 mark. Simpson drops to 10-19-1 and 4-10 in the conference standings.
The Owls host Simpson University in a NAIA West South Division doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m.
