CCC Players of the Week Named in 4 Sports
The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes have been recognized as Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period of March 22-28:
BASEBALL
Player – Concordia’s Sean Myrom, a 6-1 sophomore from San Diego, Calif., led the Cavaliers to a 3-0 week with a team-leading seven RBI. Myrom hit .357 with three extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs. He tallied six RBI with the boost of a grand slam against Lewis & Clark. He also homered vs. Corban. Honorable mention: Ray Santiago, College of Idaho; Trevor Winsor, Corban; Colin Stock, Oregon Tech.
Pitcher – Concordia’s Josh O’Gorman, a 6-5 junior from Culver, Ore., spaced four hits over nine innings to pick up the victory in a 10-inning win over Corban. O’Gorman allowed just one unearned run while fanning six batters in the victory. Honorable mention: Ben Rosen, College of Idaho; Craig Baker, Corban; Matt Bellando, Oregon Tech.
SOFTBALL
Player – Corban’s Tamara Feb, a freshman catcher from Gladstone, Ore., tied an NAIA record with three home runs in an 8-3 win over Southern Oregon. In six games, she batted .429 (9 of 21), with two doubles, four homers, seven RBI’s and eight runs scored. Honorable mention: Jody Zillner, College of Idaho; Meghan Laughlin, Southern Oregon; Cassie Bishop, Northwest Christian; Taylor Schmidt, Oregon Tech; Ashli Hughes, Eastern Oregon. Pitcher – Concordia’s Danielle Pulfrey, a 5-7 senior from Hillsboro, Ore., went 3-0 in 17 1/3 innings of work as the Cavs improved to 19-1. Pulfrey tossed a four-hitter in a win over College of Idaho, then allowed just two hits in the final 5 1/3 innings in the opener against Eastern Oregon. She then tossed a complete-game victory vs. the Mountaineers in the nightcap. She fanned 21 and walked just one during the week. Honorable mention: Jody Zillner, College of Idaho; Makenzie Marchbanks, Corban; Karri Johnson, Southern Oregon; Jennifer McDonnell, Eastern Oregon.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Track – Evergreen’s Darren Woods, a junior from Tacoma, Wash., set school marks in the 400 meters and 200 meters at the Club Northwest Spring Break Open. Woods won the 400 in a time of 50,00 and placed second in the 200 in a time of 22.45. Both marks lead the CCC. He also ran the opening leg on the 4x400 relay team. Honorable mention: David Anderson, Corban; Levi Roudebush, Southern Oregon; Andrew Perri, Eastern Oregon; Jessy Brown, Concordia.
Field – Southern Oregon’s Alex Waroff, a senior from Rogue River, Ore., won the decathlon at the SOU Spring Break Multis. Waroff totaled 6,390 points which should qualify him for the NAIA outdoor championships for the second consecutive year. Honorable mention: Chris Dilley, Eastern Oregon; Paul Roshau, Concordia.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Track – Eastern Oregon’s Alma Garcilazo, a sophomore from Umatilla, Ore., clocked a time of 2:13.59 in the 800 meters at the Stanford Invitational to earn an NAIA automatic qualifying time. Her mark also bested the previous EOU record of 2:14.54, set in 1990. Honorable mention: Maggie Miller, College of Idaho; Seena Frantz, Southern Oregon; Lauren Moran, Concordia.
Field – Concordia’s Kai Schmidt, a freshman from Lake Oswego, Ore., unleashed a throw of 147-4 in the javelin to win her event at the Stanford Invitational. It was Schmidt’s second collegiate meet of her career. Honorable mention: Rosie Converse, Southern Oregon; Ashlee Michelson, Eastern Oregon.
GOLF
Men – Corban’s Joey Duwe, a sophomore from Kingston, Wash., won his second straight tournament and first conference event of his career in come-from-behind fashion, as the second-year Warrior helped Corban to a runner-up finish at the NCU Spring Invitational. Duwe fired rounds of 76-73-71. Honorable mention: Justin Ahrens, Northwest Christian; Jed Dalton, Concordia.
Women – Concordia’s Holly Speer, a sophomore from Brush Prairie, Wash., tied for medalist honors at the NCU Spring Invitational. Speer opened with a n 83 and then followed with rounds of 78 and 72 in helping the Cavs to the team title. Honorable mention: Cecila Garcia, College of Idaho; Hailey Thomas, Corban; Shelby Gabrielson, Northwest Christian.
