Oregon Tech Stops Skid, Sweeps Bruins 5-2 and 21-4
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech hurler Dylan Bedortha threw a complete game two-hitter in game 1 and the Tech bats pushed across five runs in the first inning of game 2, which proved to be enough run support, sweeping the Bruins in NAIA West South Division play today in Klamath Falls. The Owls stopped a six-game losing streak with a 5-2 win in game 1 and routed the Bruins 21-4 in the nightcap.
Trent Smith drove in one run and finished with three hits in the opener to pace the Owl offense. Cory Spires tripled and drove in a run, with Ryson Mauricio adding a double and RBI.
In game 2 the Owls drove Bruin starting pitcher John Ballisty from the mound in the first inning after scoring five runs, including two doubles and a Cory Spires three run blast.
Tech would push three more across in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings, connecting for 21 total hits and taking the nightcap 21-4.
Frank Charlton moved even to 5-5 with the win in game 2 after going six strong innings, scattering four hits and striking out six Bruins.
In game 2 Ryson Mauricio and Colin Stock finished with four hits, with Mauricio driving in one and Stock two run, including a triple. Zack Earle, Trent Smith and Cory Staniforth each went for three hits, with Earle adding two doubles and Staniforth one. Cory Spires walked twice and singled to go with his first inning three run homerun.
Oregon Tech moves to 22-20 overall and 14-9 in the South Division of the NAIA West. Bethany falls to 8-22 on the season and 8-14 in the conference standings.
