CU Sprinters Set the Pace in Spokane
COMPLETE RESULTS
SPOKANE, Wash. – Concordia sprinters Catherine Sims and Stephanie Persaud each posted an NAIA qualifying performance to highlight track action at the WAR 3 (Washington versus Oregon, Montana and Idaho) meet hosted by Spokane Falls Community College on Saturday.
Newcomer Catherine Sims provided the biggest splash with a school record 25.20 in the 200 to hit the NAIA ‘A’ qualifying barrier precisely. In the 100, Persaud nearly matched her own school record with a 12.37 to finish in fifth place. Persaud set the all-time school record with a 12.33 during the 2008 season. Brittany Grizzard previously held the 200 standard with a 25.42 during the 2006 season.
Moving up in distance, 5,000 and 10,000 meter ace Eric Burck moved down to the 1,500 to earn an automatic qualifier by crossing the line in 3:54.90 in a runner-up performance. Burck, already qualified in 10,000 came within striking distance of the school record of 3:54.41 set by teammate Martin Romero-Clark in 2007.
Nabbing the team’s final Outdoor Championship qualifier was Eric Whalen. Competing in the javelin for the first time this season, Whalen launched a 197-9 to finish in second place and become the third Cavalier to punch a ticket to nationals in the event, joining Paul Roshau and Jesse Staub.
Already among the top 10 in the NAIA in the event, Gabrielle Dixson improved upon her season best in the hammer with a 161-11 effort to add almost a full foot to her season best of 161-0.
Other personal records on the day included Chris Andres in both the 100 and 200 and Kaley Jameson in the 100.
