Jed Dalton wins C of I Invitational
WILDER, Idaho - Jed Dalton carded his third 71 of the tournament, erasing a one-shot deficit to win medalist honors, helping Concordia University to the men’s team title at the 2010 College of Idaho Invitational at River Bend Golf Course.
Dalton, who finished the 54-hole tournament at three-under par, was tied with C of I’s Tyler Thurston heading into today’s final round, one shot back of CU teammate, Will Snow. However, Snow faltered on the back-nine of his final round, carding a 76, while Thurston missed a pair of short putts in his final ten holes, finishing with a 73 – two strokes back.
The Cavaliers shot a final round 295 to claim the title, 13-strokes ahead of the Coyotes – who posted their best 54-hole team score since winning the 2001 Lewis-Clark State Open. Snow (+1) finished in third with Jonny Miller (+10) in a tie for eight for the Cavs.
Thurston’s final total of one-under 213 for the Coyotes was the lowest 54-hole total in program history and the best overall finish by a C of I golfer in a decade. Casey Dyck (+8) placed sixth for the Yotes, with Jeff Davies rebounding from an opening round 85 to shoot his two rounds of his collegiate career, a 72-73, to finish 15th.
Northwest Nazarene took third, 31-shots out of first, with Aaron VandeHay (+10) finishing in a tie for eighth, with Northwest Christian in fourth – thanks to a fifth-place finish from Brent McKee (+6).
Simpson finished in fifth, with Mitch Card (+3) leading the Redhawks with a fourth-place finish, while Corban took sixth, behind Joey Duwe (+9) in seventh-place, and Warner Pacific took seventh.
The CCC teams, along with the University of Victoria, University of British Columbia, and Simon Fraser University, will meet next Monday and Tuesday for the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by Diamond Woods Golf Club, to determine an automatic berth to the NAIA Championships.
