Kimmy Moore grabbed the women's heptathlon title in Spokane.
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon University track and field team sent a select group of athletes to the Spokane Multi’s at Spokane Falls Community College Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Mountaineers’ Kimmy Moore brought the women’s Heptathlon title back to La Grande. The sophomore beat participants from Eastern Washington University and Spokane Community College.
Moore used a strong second day to move past a pair of EWU athletes for the victory. Her point total of 4,259 beat out Eastern Washington’s Elise Jepsen’s 4,143 points. Moore’s final score is usually one that qualifies an athlete into the 16-participant field at the NAIA National Championships.
Even more impressive was her individual marks, virtually all of them surpass the conference championship qualifying marks. Moore won the 800 meters (2:24.62) and the 100-meter hurdles (15.96). She placed second in three other events.
Joining Moore in the heptathlon from Eastern was Jessiane Heley and McKinzie Anderson. Both easily qualified for the conference meet in the Heptathlon with their fourth and fifth place finishes. Anderson scored 3,501 points in her first Heptathlon.
In the men's Decathlon, Asa Miller and Dustin Cloud began the competition for EOU. Miller used a big first day and final event in the 1,500 meters to finish fourth overall. Cloud had to withdraw after re-aggravating an injury and fouling out in the Long Jump on Day 1. Miller’s final score, 5,873, was about 200 points better than his highest point total last year.
The Mountaineers return home to host the EOU Open Saturday on the Eastern Oregon University campus. The meet begins at 10 a.m. with field events and the running events start at noon.
