Redwine Selected to Play for the Sounders
SEATTLE, Wash. - Northwest University's women's soccer coach, Erin Redwine, has been selected to play for the Seattle Sounders Women again this season. The Seattle Sounders Women, a W-League team in the United Soccer League, plays at the highest level of women's soccer in the Pacific Northwest. There are over 40 teams nationwide that will be competing for the national championship this season.
The Sounders Women are in their tenth consecutive year of play and have made national final fours and won conference championships in the past.
Coach Redwine will be playing forward for the Sounders and she has been a team member since 2003. The busy mother of two young ones, Erin juggles her busy schedule to fit in practices and games.
"I still love playing and it’s a good outlet for me," commented Redwine. "We train when my kids are in bed (8-10:00pm)...Playing at the highest level makes me a better coach as I'm constantly seeing new angles of the game and I'm also reminded how it feels to be the one doing what I ask my players to do...gutting out that recovery run back on defense and putting myself on the line by challenging for a header in the goal mouth."
The Sounders women will begin play in a pre-season contest with Coach Redwine's alma mater, Seattle Pacific, on April 28 at 7:00 p.m. on the Falcon's Interbay field. Sunday, May 2, the team takes on Oregon State at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila at 1:00 p.m. and they meet up with the University of Washington women on May 6, at 8:00 p.m. at Starfire. The regular season gets started on June 4 as they travel to Ft. Collins, Colorado to take on the Ft. Collins Force.
After graduating from Issaquah High School, Redwine went on to play for the University of Montana from 1997-1999, and then finished her college career at Seattle Pacific University where she was named Team Captain, All-Conference First team and Academic All-Star. Redwine was the first women's soccer coach for the Eagles' inaugural season in the fall of 2006. The 2008 season was the most successful season for the Eagles to date as they finished in fourth place in the Cascade Conference with a 7-3 conference record and 8-5-2 over all.
