Homeruns Power Oregon Tech Past Corban
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech used 2 homeruns each from Kayde Schaefer and Jess Plummer including a Grand Slam from Plummer in the night cap to sweep a Cascade Collegiate Conference doubleheader from Corban College 5-4, and 16-9.
Oregon Tech improves to 11-5 in CCC play and 24-18 on the season and sits in 2nd place in the CCC standings. Corban falls to 7-7 in CCC play and 15-20 on the season. Both teams will continue CCC play on the road Saturday with Oregon Tech traveling to Northwest Christian University in Eugene for double-header and Corban traveling over to Southern Oregon University in Ashland to play two as well.
In game 1, Tech got a 3-run homerun off the bat of catcher Kayde Schaefer in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on to win 5-4 behind solid pitching from Mikey Eustance who went the distance for the win. Eustance pitched all 7 innings giving up 9 hits and 4 earned runs to improve to 8-8 on the season.
Oregon Tech was led in hitting by Schaefer who had 2 hits and 4 RBI.
Corban was led by Liane DeHart who had 3 hits and scored twice for the Warriors. Katie Stiegleman also hit her 3rd homerun of the season in a losing effort for Corban. Starting Pitcher Makenzie Marchbanks picked up the loss dropping to 9-13 on the season giving up 5 earned runs on only 5 hits in her 6 innings.
In game 2, the teams went back and forth heading to the bottom of the fourth inning when Oregon Tech took over a 3-2 game scoring 3 times in the 4th, 6 times in the 5th and 4 more times in the 6th inning to win a slug fest 16-9. The two teams combined for 22 hits and 25 runs in the night cap.
Oregon Tech’s Jess Plummer had 5 hits in 5 at bats in game 2 including her 7th and 8th homeruns of the season the last a Grand slam coming in the bottom of the 6th inning to put a 12-9 game away 16-9. Andria Wheatley added 3 hits and 3 RBI with Kayde Schaefer and Taylor Schmidt each adding 2 hits and a homerun in the win.
Schmidt pitched 4 and 1/3 innings in picking up the win and improving her record to 11-4 on the season. Game 1 winner Mikey Eustance pitched 1 and 1/3 innings in relief to pick up the save for Tech.
Makenzie Marchbanks picked up the loss giving up 8 runs (4earned) in 1 and 1/3 of an inning in relief.
Jessie Jones led the Warrior attack with 3 hits in 5 plate appearances. DeHart, Stephanie Nippert, Erica Fitzgerald, Tamara Feb and Jessica Schell all had 2 hits in the loss for Corban
