Tech's Kyle Conner Hit Game Winning Double
Hustlin’ Owls Sweep Red Hawks 13-4, 5-4
REDDING, CA. – Oregon Tech hit three homeruns and scored 13 times on 13 hits then received stellar pitching from Matt Bellando who carried a No Hitter into the 6th inning as Tech won 13-4. In the night cap, Tech came back from a 4-1 deficit scoring three runs in the eighth to win 5-4.
With the sweep Oregon Tech Improves to 16-9 in Conference play and 24-20 overall. Simpson falls to 11-14 in Conference play and 18-23-1 overall.
In game 1, Trent Smith hit a 3-run homerun in the 2nd inning and Cory Staniforth and Cory Spires each hit 2-run homeruns in the 3rd inning as Tech jumped on top of the Red Hawks early and often scoring in each of the first five frames. Colin Stalk led Tech with 4 hits in game 1.
Starting pitcher Matt Bellando carried a no-hitter into the 6th before giving up 3 hits and 4 runs in the 6th inning. Bellando rebounded and pitched a 1,2, 3, 7th inning to even his record at 6-6 on the season striking out 6 Red Hawks along the way.
In game 2, Simpson led 4-2 heading to the 8th inning when Oregon Tech scored three times to take a 5-4 lead behind catcher Kyle Conner who hit a 2-run double to right center field with 2 outs scoring the game tying and what would turn out to be the game winning runs.
Oregon Tech’s Darryl Swearingen pitched the final inning and 2/3rds to improve his record to 3-0 on the season striking-out 3 Red Hawks.
The two teams will face each other again with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm on Sunday
