NU Signs Prep Standout
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Coach John Van Dyke announced the signing of Michael Greene, a 6-5 forward from 2A state champion Squalicum High School in Bellingham, Wash.
Greene’s Storm team (26-1) won back-to-back 2A state championships in 2009 and 2010. He was named All-Northwest Conference first team member two consecutive years (’09-’10), 2A All-State Tournament first team, Associated Press All-State first team and was selected to play in this year’s WIBCA All-State game. He averaged 16.1 points per game with a 75% field goal accuracy, 9.42 rebounds per game and shot 71% from the free throw line.
Michael is also an outstanding student maintaining a 3.9 grade point average at Squalicum.
“Michael has a strong will to win and provides whatever his team needs to succeed: lock-down defense, rebounds, or scoring,” commented Dave Dickson his high school coach. “Much of our success over the past 3 years is due to Michael’s contributions Michael is a good teammate whose competitiveness and toughness inspires his teammates. He is a physically gifted, intelligent player who is far from his potential. It will be fun to watch Michael grow as a player and a student at Northwest.”
This marks the second outstanding player signed from the Northwest Conference in three years for the Eagles as Rich Skillman, former 1A Player of the Year from Nooksack Valley High School, is a current member of the NU Eagle men’s team and will be a junior next season.
Head Coach Van Dyke commenting on Greene: “Michael Greene is a winner and one of the most efficient players I have ever seen. He will have a great four years at NU and I am thrilled that he decided to join our basketball family.”
