BELLINGHAM, Wash.—With a toss of 53 feet, 3 1/2 inch, Eric Whalen established a new school record in the shot put to highlight Concordia track & field action at the Western Washington Twilight held at Civic Field on Friday.

Whalen ‘s winning mark added four inches to his previous best of 52-11 1/2 set at the University of Oregon last season. His new mark also moves the sophomore into the No. 7 spot on the NAIA performance list. Whalen, a two-time NAIA All-American in the shot, finished sixth at the NAIA Indoor Championships last March and fifth at the indoor champs as a freshman. Whalen also recorded a fifth-place finish in the javelin at the outdoor championships last year as a freshman.

Also posting a career best on the day, Gabrielle Dixson added to her all-time personal record in the hammer throw with a 163-11 effort. Finishing second overall in the event, Dixson improved her personal best by exactly two feet and moved into No. 12 on the NAIA’s outdoor performance list.

On the track, a pair of sprinters and a pair of distance runners registered career bests in their respective events. In the 200, Chris Andres finished seventh with a 23.34 and Jameson Futter crossed in 23.82 for 10th place. In the 10,000, Zach Sinn and Dylan Smith broke the 16-minute barrier as Ginn raced his way to a 15:49.00 and Zitzer a 15:52.60.

In the 800, Junia Limage and Josh Burrus each posted the school’s fifth best time as Burrus finished in sixth place with a 1:57.96 and Limage eighth with a 2:21.95.

The Cavaliers also received winning performances by Kaycee Gillespie and Chris Wilson. Gillespie finished in a multi-way tie for first in the pole vault while Wilson ran a 15.53 in the 110-meter hurdles. Along with Dixson’s hammer result, runner-up finishes were posted by Stephanie Persaud (200); Dixon (shot), Breezy Wentz (discus), Kai Schmidt (javelin), Jameson Futter (long jump) and KC Vaughn (pole vault).
