CCC Players of the Week Named in 4 Sports
The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes have been recognized as Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period of April 19-25:
SOFTBALL
Player – Concordia’s Cameron Way, a 5-8 junior first baseman from Steilacoom, Wash., batted .500 and drove in seven runs as the Cavs went 3-1. Against OIT, Way hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning of a 6-5 win and returned in the second game with a three-run homer in the sixth to key a second comeback win. Honorable mention: Brooke Davis, Northwest Christian; Sarah Wharton, Southern Oregon; Jessie Jones, Corban.
Pitcher – Northwest Christian’s Brooke Davis, a 5-9 sophomore from Sherwood, Ore., pitched in all four victories for NCU. She ran her school-record scoreless inning streak to 32 1/3 innings before it came to an end vs. Eastern Oregon. Her ERA, 3.17 at the beginning of the week, dropped to 2.59, and she held opposing batters to a .128 average. She fanned 22 batters in 17 1/3 innings. In addition, she batted .412 with one homer and six RBI’s. Honorable mention: Jody Zillner, College of Idaho; Lauren Keel, Southern Oregon; Makenzie Marchbanks, Corban.
BASEBALL
Player – College of Idaho’s Kyle Douglas, a 6-0 junior outfielder from Post Falls, Idaho, went 7 for 13 at the plate, with two doubles, a triple, one homer and six RBI’s as the Yotes went 4-0 and posted their fourth 30-win season in five years. Honorable mention: Andrew Reid, Concordia; Josh Warner, Corban.
Pitcher – College of Idaho’s Levi Mitchum, a 6-0 junior from Yakima, Wash., scattered three hits and allowed just one earned run as the Yotes defeated Corban 8-1. Mitchum walked three and struck out three in his six-inning effort. Honorable mention: Zac Manor, Concordia; Jacob Kopra, Corban.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Track – Eastern Oregon’s Andrew Wise, a senior from Vernonia, Ore., had a stellar performance at the Northwest Nazarene Invitational, winning the 200 meters in 23.06 and placing third in the 400 meters in a time of 50.59. Honorable mention: Dominic Bolin, College of Idaho; Derek Larman, Oregon Tech; Brian Rakestraw, Evergreen.
Field – Oregon Tech’s Bryant Sentman, a junior from Cottage Grove, Ore., recorded a career-best 203-5 effort in winning the javelin at the Oregon-California Border Clash in Arcata, Calif. His mark is the fifth-best in the NAIA this season. Honorable mention: Eric Whalen, Concordia; Chris Dilley, Eastern Oregon.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Track – Eastern Oregon’s Alma Garcilazo, a sophomore from Umatilla, Ore., won the 200 meters (26.22) and the 400 meters (58.16) in addition to running a leg on the winning 4x400 meter relay team, which set a school record with a time of 3:56.93. Honorable mention: Emily McCutchan, College of Idaho; Nikki Smith, Oregon Tech.
Field – Oregon Tech’s Sarah Schelb, a senior from Chiloquin, Ore., posted a winning mark of 155-10 in the javelin at the Oregon-California Border Clash in Arcata, Calif. Schelb won her event by more than 30 feet. Honorable mention: Gabriella Dixson, Concordia; Grace Deboodt, Eastern Oregon.
