LA GRANDE, Ore – The Eastern Oregon University softball team dropped its ninth consecutive game Saturday to Corban College.

Corban’s Makenzie Marchbanks threw 12.1 innings Saturday, allowing five hits and only one run. In Game 1, the junior threw a complete game and had a no hitter going into the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs, Eastern’s Shelby Spencer reached on a single to third base. Corban scored its first run in the top of third inning after a wild pitch. Liane Dehart drove in Rachel Kazmierski with a single to left field in the fourth inning, and would score later in the inning. Rebecca Franke scored off of a Jessica Pierce single to center field in the fifth inning.

Stephanie Nippert and Tamara Feb belted back-to-back home runs in the top of the sixth inning. Nippert’s shot over the center field fence brought in Dehart. Feb’s homer completed the scoring in the first game, 7-0.

The Mountaineers committed three errors in Game 1, while the Warriors had one. EOU had one hit and Corban finished with nine. Eastern left six runners on base and the Warriors left 11.

Corban College got out to a 2-0 lead after two innings in Game 2. Suzie Espinoza doubled to center field for the Mountaineers in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nyssa Salazar came in to pinch run for Espinoza and would eventually score off of a Spencer groundout to third base.

The Warriors broke open a 2-1 score with seven runs in the top of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Jessie Jones drove a Jennifer McDonnell pitch deep over the left center field wall for the grand slam. Two batters later Nippert would record her second home run of the day.

McDonnell was credited with both losses and is now 8-11 on the season. The freshman allowed eight earned runs and 14 hits in 12 innings on the mound. She struck out 10 batters and walked nine.
