North Idaho College's Callie Johns will be a Mountaineer in 2010.
LA GRANDE, Ore.—The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team recently announced the signing of Callie Johns for the 2010 season.
The 6-0 sophomore was a standout at North Idaho College last season. Johns was named to the Scenic West Conference honorable mention team in 2009. NIC climbed to the top spot in the NJCAA before falling in the Region 18 semifinals. Johns was a member of the 11th ranked nationally NIC team her freshman season.
The Emmett, Idaho native graduated with honors from Emmett High School in 2008. Johns will be an Elementary Education major at Eastern Oregon in hopes of becoming an Elementary school teacher.
“We’re excited to have a player of Callie’s caliber join our program,” EOU head coach Hailey Pearce said. “She will be an asset to our team on and off of the court.”
Johns played volleyball all four seasons at Emmett and ran track for three seasons. She was All-Southern Idaho Conference second team as a senior while leading her team to a fourth-place state finish. In 2007, her team finished fifth-place in the state. Johns was named to the All-Conference Academic second team as a junior and senior.
“I chose Eastern Oregon because I loved the campus, the team, and the coach,” Johns said.
The daughter of Ward and Kathy Johns and the rest of her Mountaineer teammates begin the 2010 season August 27 at the Montana Tech tournament.
