LA GRANDE, Ore – Eastern Oregon University Athletics and the Eastern Oregon University Foundation has announced the creation of the Dylan Steigers Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a football player at EOU in memory of Steigers who died from head trauma on May 9 received during a spring football scrimmage at EOU.
“We have had an outpouring of support,” said Rob Cashell, director of athletics. “Locally, regionally and nationally, we are hearing from family and friends of Dylan, as well as friends and alumni of EOU who want a way to help recognize and honor this great young man.”
The first $1,000 donation was made by Mountaineer Booster Club President Craig Braseth and family on behalf of his company, Mountain West Moving and Storage.
All of the proceeds from this weekend’s football program silent auction will be dedicated to the fund as well.
"This fund will support our student-athletes, and enable a future football player the opportunity to achieve a college education," said Tim Seydel, vice president of marketing and development and executive director of the EOU Foundation. "It will keep Dylan's spirit and memory alive and we're honored to assist."
Individuals or corporations interested in supporting the scholarship fund should direct their gifts to the Eastern Oregon University Foundation, One University Blvd., La Grande, Ore., 97850 or go on line to www.eou.edu/foundation and make a contribution. Simply indicate on the check or online that the gift is for the Dylan Steigers Memorial Scholarship.
