ASHLAND, ORE -- Southern Oregon women’s soccer coach Jon Clement announced today the signing of 12 players to join the Raiders in the Fall. The group will included 11 freshmen and one transfer back to the SOU program.

“We’re thrilled to welcome this group to campus and our program,” Clement said. “They’re all very good people and accomplished players who work their tails off. They’ve been well coached at some of the best clubs in the country and they’ve excelled and won at many of the most demanding showcase events-experience that will help them all jump right into the college game. And as we basically return our whole team we’re very excited about the increased competitiveness that should be a part of our training this fall.”

The group is led by the return of Stacy Hamer. Hamer played for the Raiders during the 2008 season and transferred to Whitworth last year to be closer to home and will retun to the Raiders in the Fall.

Alyssa Bricker (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Santa Fe Attack), Sara Dutra (Hanford, Calif./East Fresno Fusion), Ashton Griffen (Duvall, Wash./Eastside FC ‘91 Red), Kaylee Huie (Lake Tapps, Wash./FWU Reign ‘91 Purple), Keanae Loera (Camano Island, Wash./Crossfire Premier), Sydney Paulsen (Loveland, Colo./Arsenal Soccer Club), Kennedy Roteman (Yorba Linda, Calif./Slammers FC), Lauren Slaughter (San Ramon, Calif./Pleasanton Rage), Danielle Stave (Petaluma, Calif./Sonoma County Alliance ‘92), Devon Walker (Yelm, Wash./FWU Reign ‘91 Purple) and Julie Zamzow (Boise, Idaho/Boise Capitals SC) will all be freshmen for the Raiders in 2010.

“In the past two years we’ve improved tremendously and are now able to play well against the best teams in the country,” Clement said. “ Still, we’ve been relatively hammered with injuries so we knew we really wanted to make our roster bigger - mission accomplished, thanks to the fine efforts of our staff and current players”

SOU went 7-8-2 overall and 5-3-1 in Cascade Conference play and just missed out on the four-team Cascade Conference Postseason Tournament.

2010 SOU Soccer Recruiting Class

Alyssa Bricker; Temecula, CA; Rancho Santa Fe Attack

“Bricks is a great person and a quick, athletic and tenacious defender; she has great match mentality and is very good in the individual arena…our staff was very impressed with her lock down defending in southern California when we saw her; we know she’ll help to solidify our ability to keep the ball in the front part of the field.”

RSF coach Jimmy Murphy says ‘Alyssa is a strong, quick, very physical marking back who loves to get forward and get involved in the attack...she can bring another dimension to an already good team.”

Sara Dutra; Hanford, Calif; East Fresno Fusion

“Sara’s a truly passionate player and gregarious, fun person-she’s an intense competitor, fast, technical and very comfortable solving pressure and in possession, usually in the center of the park…she’s got a sublime first touch and can cleverly make space for herself; her work rate is extreme, her activity rate really high-and so we’re really looking forward to seeing her compete here in training and for match minutes.”

Sara’s HS coach Mary-Tyler Wahl adds “Sara’s ability to rally the team around a cause and motivate them to fight and play hard is something that cannot be taught, and she has developed and refined that over her high school career.”

Ashton Griffen; Duvall, Wash; Eastside FC ’91 red

“Ash is a very competent holding/flank midfielder type; she’s got great service off both feet, she loves the game and is a top shelf person and great leader-I know she’ll impact her class and as well provide us with furthered competitive depth; her club team is one of the top sides in the Northwest and has excelled at Surf Cup, Texas Shootout, the Las Vegas Showcase etc; all that winning experience will help Ash immensely this fall.”

Kaylee Huie; Lake Tapps, Wash; FWU Reign ’91 Purple

“We’re thrilled to welcome Kaylee to our team-she was most impressive well over a year ago as a front player; she’s also shown good versatility as an attacking back; in either role it’s her insatiable work-rate and pace that define her, she’s flat out driven, loves to get forward and has a huge engine.”

FWU ‘91 coach James Cecil adds, “Kaylee is a fierce competitor in training and on game day. She wants to win and it comes out every time she steps on the field.”

Keanae Loera; Camano Island, Wash; Crossfire Premier

“Key is a hungry, busy, attacking player who’s got the requisite combination of fearless attitude and one-on-one confidence. She hits the ball very cleanly, is good in & around the attacking box and is capable of scoring great goals along with ‘garbage-y’ ones-we’re very excited to add her to our attack!”

Crossfire coach Sean Brazil adds: “Keanae will always give 110%; her work ethic, energy and passion for the game will be a huge bonus for SOU. Her strength on the ball and determination to score goals will give SOU a solid attacking player.”

Sydney Paulsen; Loveland, Colo; Arsenal Soccer Club

“We were first impressed with Syd at the end of her sophomore year; she’s constantly working and trying to find a way to get in behind, she can play centrally or out wide; she’s also a fiery competitor and a very top student, I know those qualities will serve her well in the college game.”

Arsenal coach Dave Shaffer adds; “She is a very good soccer player, extremely coachable and the kind of student athlete that any institution would be proud to call their own.”

Kennedy Roteman; Yorba Linda, Calif; Slammers FC

“Kennedy typifies the fantastic southern cal soccer scene and it’s great for us to welcome someone from Slammers-arguably one of the best women’s clubs in the country. She’s a good connector with very clean technique; great in possession and solid soccer IQ. Also she plays every day with and against some of the best players in the country; I know her winning experience will be invaluable to our program.”

Slammers coach Ziad Khoury says “Kennedy is a player with great speed and has a great ability to take players in 1v1 situations. She is always determined to get inside the 18. She loves scoring and always finds ways to do it.”

Lauren Slaughter; San Ramon, Calif; Pleasanton Rage

“Lauren plays the game the ‘right’ way-she’s got good soccer IQ, passing range and technique-that in concert with the fact that she’s comfortable out on the left side will enable her to help us keep possession in that channel of the field. Her character and general outlook on life is engaging too. I know she’ll be a great teammate and someone we’ll all enjoy working with.”

Pleasanton Rage coach Gordon Lang: “Lauren is a good strong player that has a couple different ranges to cross and shoot from that would cause a lot of problems for opponents. She has very good speed and can get behind defenses.”

Danielle Stave; Petaluma, Calif; Sonoma County Alliance ‘92

“We’ve wanted Danielle on our team since we first saw her play two years ago--her soccer is very responsible; she gets up and down the flank well and passes astutely from her left side-she’s used to winning too, most notably a championship at the 2009 San Diego Surf Cup, one of the best college showcases in the country…”

SCA coach Josh Sterling remarks “Danielle is very driven by her competitive mentality to succeed. She has good insight into the game and is a great asset with her strong left foot. She is an ideal teammate and will do whatever it takes to win”

Julie Zamzow; Boise, ID; Boise Capitals SC

“Julie’s a very soulful player with great attacking pedigree and is exceptionally quick in/around the box-precisely the kind of player that I think will do well in the front of our side. She’s also got a marvelous temperament and doesn’t ever seem to get rattled.”

Boise Caps coach Eric Simmonsen adds “Julie’s speed and will to compete will definitely be attributes to assist in the Southern Oregon attack and adding to the coming championship mentality on and off the field of play.”

Devon Walker; Yelm, Wash; FWU Reign ’91 Purple

“We’re fortunate to add Devon to our team; she’s a confident, solid goalkeeper with great technique and attitude-she’ll add depth and competitiveness to our goalkeeping position, providing us with the 1-2 goalkeeping punch that we really need.”

FWU Coach Cecil chimes in: “Devon is a very athletic keeper. She makes some of the most amazing saves I have seen at the youth level and gives her team a chance to win every time she is in the goal.”

Stacy Hamer; Spokane, Wash; Whitworth College (Spokane Shadow ’89)

“Stacy is the sort of player any coach would be honored to work with-she’s an insatiable worker, great competitor and focused teammate; we’re so excited to welcome her back to our program after a year away-where she excelled on a very good Whitworth side. Stacy was a mainstay in our midfield in 2008 and has potential to be impactful this fall as well; she solves pressure well, is comfortable taking in any type of ball and can absolutely punish balls on the frame.”
