Kim Fritts will return to the dugout to coach the SOU softball team.
Fritts To Return To SOU Softball Post
ASHLAND, ORE. -- Two months after resigning as Southern Oregon head softball coach, Kim Fritts is returning to the position she held for three-plus years. SOU Athletic Director Matt Sayre announced the return of Fritts on Thursday.
“Kim is an outstanding coach and we consider ourselves lucky to have been able to convince her to come back,” Sayre said. “In her absence, our softball program was well-served by interim head coach Kolby Schooley, and we want to honor her efforts, but Kim is the coach we need to keep this program on its trajectory of success.”
Fritts resigned from her post in March citing a need to support her family. At that time the SOU head softball job was a part time position.
In the last two months, the softball position has been elevated to a full-time spot and that made Fritts’s return possible.
“I would like to thank Matt and the University for believing in me enough to call and ask me back,” Fritts said. “The reasons I left were not because I didn’t want to coach or I wanted to leave the University, I had to do what was best for me and my family financially. I can’t wait to get back and hit the ground running. We have a great team in place and a great group of recruits coming in. I look forward to being a part of the success the softball program is going to have in the future.”
Fritts has a career record of 52-77 at SOU.
Assistant coach Kolby Schooley to over this year as the Interim head coach and after a 4-10 start to the season, the Raiders finished the season with a 12-13 mark under Schooley and a 16-23 overall record. The Raiders went 12-12 in conference play and played in the conference semifinals.
“Kolby did a great job this season and I’m proud of her and the job she did stepping and taking the team to the postseason,” Fritts said. “She’s a vital part of this coaching staff and I look forward to working side-by-side with her again.”
