KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has selected junior men's basketball player Ian Logan (Aloha, Ore.) to receive its prestigious Emil S. Liston award, as announced Thursday by the national office.

This year’s award, which is given annually by the NAIA and Daktronics, recognizes one male and one female basketball player based on scholarship, character and playing ability. Since 1950, the award has honored the memory of the NAIA’s first executive director Emil S. Liston. Liston was the founder of the National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball (NAIB).

“I am pleased to welcome Ian to the distinguished group of Emil S. Liston Award honorees,” said Jim Carr, NAIA president and CEO. “Their ability to balance a full academic and athletic load with tremendous success is impressive.”

Logan was selected by the NAIA Council of Faculty Athletics Representatives from a field that included nominees from numerous NAIA member institutions. In lieu of Logan's honor, Corban will receive a $1,000 scholarship award from Daktronics in his name.

Logan is an ambassador of Corban and maintains a 3.93 overall grade point average, as he focuses his academic discipline toward Pre-Med. His ability to balance academics and athletics ranks him top in his class. As a member of the men’s basketball team, he can drive to the basket and shoot 3-pointers like guards, in addition to posting up and scoring inside. This season, Logan led the team in total rebounds and was a close second only to a senior in most other statistical categories. A team captain and starter since his freshman year, Logan has started 59 of the 70 games that he has played in, not starting in 11 due only to injury. However, most impressive is his desire to be a part of the team.

“Ian is an athlete of distinguished character,” said Dr. Tim Anderson, Professor of Theology at Corban. “He is a sincere young man with a quiet strength. It is wonderful for us here to reflect on his growth and contribution to Corban as an athlete and student.”

Logan is committed to excellence in his academic and athletic pursuits and has demonstrated the highest personal character during his time at Corban. His future plans include medical school where he will pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon.

Logan’s academic and athletic accomplishments paired with talent on the basketball court makes him an ideal recipient of the Emil S. Liston award. To learn more about the NAIA and other national and sport specific awards visit www.NAIA.org.
