PORTLAND, Ore. -- A dozen members of Special Olympics Oregon provided impressive and uplifiting performances during three exhibition races held during the recent Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Championships.

Representing Special Olympics Oregon (SOOR) in the event were Aaron Aarseth, Michael Ekelman, Shana Johnson, Kris Latham, Ross Martin, Atheena McClaughry, Rachelle McClaughry, Meagan Paxton, Jeremy Petty, Christopher Steen, David Taylor, and Kortni Vaughn.

The SOOR competitors wowed the crowd as they competed in the men's and women's 100 meter dashes and a mixed 400 meter dash on the final day of the CCC's three-day annual championship event.

“This was a great chance for our athletes to show their abilities and compete in front of some of the best college level track coaches, athletes, and officials in the Pacific Northwest,” said Mark Hanken, SOOR Sr. Vice President of Sports. “We look forward to building a lasting partnership with the Cascade Collegiate Conference and its member schools so we can have more of these opportunities in the future.”

A cooperative effort of the CCC and Special Olympics Oregon, the exhibition races were intended to provide a quality competitive experience for SOOR athletes as part of the CCC's commitment to the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative.
