Ahmaad Cook will play Northwest University in 2010-11.
Eagles Sign California Guard Ahmaad Cook
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University men’s head basketball coach John Van Dyke announced the signing of 6 foot guard, Ahmaad Cook of Inglewood, Calif. and Fullerton College for the 2010-11 season.
Cook is a graduate of well known Westchester High School in Los Angeles where he averaged 15 points per game, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals per contest in his senior season and his Comet team finished the 2006 season with a 25-7 record. Cook guided Westchester to the 2006 Los Angeles City Championship, defeating nationally-ranked and favorite Fairfax in the semifinals and Woodland Hills Taft High School in the title game in 2006 and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Los Angeles All-City Basketball Championship. He earned MVP honors earlier in the season at the Westchester Tip-Off Classic, where he led his team to a 4-0 record and the Classic title. Cook’s Westchester team also competed in the 2005 Les Schwab Invitational in Oregon and the 2006 Pango Dream Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
Westchester High is a nationally-ranked high school program known for developing players such as Amir Johnson of the Detroit Pistons, Trevor Ariza formerly of UCLA and current member of the Orlando Magic and Hassan Adams at Arizona.
Cook signed with and played for Ball State University and Coach Ronny Thompson in Muncie, Indiana in 2006-07 and appeared in 21 games for the Cardinals as a freshman. Ahmaad later transferred to Fullerton College in California where he earned first team All-Orange Empire Conference honors under Coach Andre Smith. His 2008-09 team finished tied for second in the OEC with a 10-2 conference record and an 18-11 overall mark for the 2008-09 season.
Ahmaad is the son of George and Acquinetta Cook of Inglewood, Calif. Cook’s older brother Ashanti, played his college basketball at Georgetown University under the direction of John Thompson III.
