RAPID CITY, S.D. ---- The first round of the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships is in the books Tuesday at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City, S.D., with the University of British Columbia taking the Day 1 lead and just one individual in the 128-player field carding an 18-hole score under par.
In the team standings, British Columbia posted the lowest score of 301 (rated fourth in the final Top 25 Coaches Poll from May 7) with last year’s team champs, Oklahoma City University, taking second by seven strokes with a 308.
Concordia University of the Cascade Collegiate Conference is in ninth place, just 10 strokes out of third. The Cavaliers' Lindsay Aho, the CCC Player of the Year, is in a tie for 11th place after shooting a 76 in the first round.
The top rated team heading into the four-day tournament, Embry-Riddle (Fl.), tallied a team score of 310 for third place, while California Baptist University was three strokes back in fourth with a 313. Lubbock Christian University (Texas) carded a 317 for fifth and Northwood (Fl.) and the University of South Carolina – Beaufort are tied for sixth each with 318 strokes.
Individually, Maegan Rice of the University of Mobile (Ga.) came in with a one-under-par 71 and was the only golfer on the course to post a score under 72 Tuesday.
British Columbia’s Alyssa Human and Lubbock Christian’s Anna Schopp share second place after Day one each with scores of 73, Nathalie Silva of California Baptist is fourth with a 75 and six golfers share fifth place with a 75.
Tuesday’s round begins at 7:30 a.m. (MT) with groups teeing off on both Hole 1 and Hole 10.
