The piles of garbage collected around the campus.
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University athletic department hosted its annual campus cleanup Tuesday on the EOU campus.
Assistant football coach Zach Tinker headed the third-year project. Mountaineer athletes and staff took a day to walk-around campus and tidy up the surroundings.
"I just wanted to thank all of the coaches for doing such a great job of getting their players involved in this year's campus cleanup project,” Tinker said. “We filled over 200 huge garbage bags with garbage, leaves, weeds, pine cones, pine needles, some dirt, and sadly a lot of cigarette butts. Our players and coaches made the campus better Tuesday.”
The cleanup is a department wide effort from athletics staff, administration coaches and student athletes.
"This has become one of our trademark service projects for the department,” Director of Athletics, Rob Cashell said. “We hope to showcase the pride we all feel for our campus everyday by taking the time to help keep it in such good condition"
"I think it is great when you see the student-athletes from all of the sports working together in any capacity especially one that benefits the University as a whole," head men’s basketball coach Isaac Williams said.
“This project was very well done,” head football coach Tim Camp said. “The beautification of our campus is so important. We have a super campus and we made it better. The athletic staff and student-athlete's made us better today. It was a great effort by all.”
