BOX SCORES -- GAME 1 : GAME 2

GRESHAM, Ore.—In the regular-season finale for both teams, Corban held off Concordia 7-6 in the opener before posting a 3-1 in the second game in an NAIA West region doubleheader sweep held at Oslund Field on Sunday.

With the results, Corban improved to 14-37 on the season and 7-24 in regional play. Concordia ended its season with a 10-34 overall mark and 6-18 in the region.

Concordia struck for three runs in the first inning before Corban erupted for a six-run fifth. The Cavaliers responded with three in the home half of the fifth to square the battle at 6-6, but the Warriors were able to register the final run in the game with a two-out RBI double by Trevor Winsor in the seventh.

Jake Balbus connected on a single to right and was traded places by Mitch Riddle, who reached on a fielder’s choice after slapping the ball to third for the second out. Winsor’s hit was enough to send Nate Hiebert, who pinch ran for Riddle and stole a base, from second for the eventual game-winning run.

Ryan Kolstad and Brady Miletich recorded RBI singles for Concordia in the first. Kolstad replicated the action in the 3-run fifth as the Cavs also managed two unearned runs in the frame.

The Warriors used four hits, two walks, a hit batter and an error for their big inning in the fifth. Josh Warner posted a sacrifice fly while Steven Blum and Kyle Taylor jumped in for RBI singles. Balbas followed with an RBI single to left which nearly provided Corban with two scores as Taylor was gunned down at the plate. Steven Candelaria capped the stanza with a 2-RBI single to center.

Tyler Doornink picked up the win after perfect pitching over the final 4 1/3 innings. Doornink struck out three while avoiding a hit or a walk. Corban starter Jacob Kopra went 4 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. Kopra allowed six runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits.

Steven Taft went seven full innings before being relieved by Brett Ferguson.

After seeing CU take a lead in the first earlier in the day, the Warriors manufactured a run in the first in the second game by way of a sacrifice fly by Taylor to allow lead-off hitter Jonathon Ramirez to scamper home from third after reaching on a single and moving up on a sacrifice bunt from Josh Warner and an infield single from Blum.

Corban added a pair of runs in the third with RBI at bats from Blum and Taylor.

The Cavs broke trough in the fifth with an Andrew Reid double to left center which allowed Tyler Anderson to score and threatened to tie the game in the sixth by filling the bases without recording an out.

Derek Kirkland opened the inning with a single and was followed by Brett Byrd who reached being struck by a pitch. Hitting in the eighth spot, Jon Houts reached on an error at shortstop to put the go-ahead runner on board for the Cavs.

After a strikeout for the first out, Corban starter Trevor Winsor escaped the inning unscathed as he was able to snare a rocket by CU’s Sean Myrom. After collecting the come-baker, Winsor fired to third for the inning-ending double play.

Winsor stuck out four while allowing the single run to earn the complete-game win. Dylan Smith pitched the full seven frames for the Cavs as both teams tallied eight hits against the two starters.
