EOU's Booth Leads List of CCC Weekly Honorees
The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes have been recognized as Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period of April 26-May 2:
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Track – Eastern Oregon’s Ryan Booth, a sophomore from Post Falls, Idaho, broke a 33-year-old school record by posting a time of 1:50.64 in the 800 meters at the Oregon Relays. It ranks as the third-fastest time in the NAIA ranks this season. Booth also ran a leg on the 4x400 relay team at the Pacific Twilight, which posted a school mark of 3:17.03. Honorable mention: Dennis Olstedt, Southern Oregon; Chris Wilson, Concordia.
Field – Eastern Oregon’s Chris Dilley, a senior from Portland, Ore., recorded the third-best mark in the NAIA this season with a 199-4 effort in the hammer throw a the Oregon Relays. He finished third in the event. In the discus, he finished sixth with a mark of 149-5. Dilley has earned NAIA automatic qualifying marks in both events. Honorable mention: Erik Kuster, Concordia.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Track – College of Idaho’s Maggie Miller, a senior from Anchorage, Alaska, set a school record in placing second in the 1,500 at the Oregon Relays, running the fastest time in the CCC and sixth-fastest time in the NAIA (4:35.19). Miller also ran the lead leg of the 4x800 relay which hit an NAIA automatic qualifying standard in addition to setting a Pacific Twilight meet and track record (9:22.31). Honorable mention: Alma Garcilazo, Eastern Oregon: Alice Taylor, Concordia.
Field – Concordia’s Gabriella Dixson, a freshman from Battle Ground, Wash., posted first-, second-, and third-place finishes at the Pacific Twilight. Dixson set a personal record with a mark of 42-0 ¾ in the shot, finished first in the hammer (153-10) and placed second in the discus (142-3). Honorable mention: Sarah Schelb, Oregon Tech; Holly Haga, Southern Oregon.
SOFTBALL
Player – Concordia’s Ali Paz, a junior shortstop from Roseburg, Ore., batted .800 (8 of 10), hit two homers and drove in 10 runs as the Cavaliers posted a 3-1 record. After going 1 of 3 at the plate in the first game, she connected for hits in each of her next seven official at-bats. She had an .857 on-base percentage. Paz was also perfect in the field at the shortstop position. Honorable mention: Justin Felton, Southern Oregon.
Pitcher – Concordia’s Renee Santos, a junior from Portland, Ore., allowed just one hit in two starts. She tossed a no-hitter against Oregon Tech and a one-hitter vs. Southern Oregon. She allowed two hits in two innings of relief work as well. In 13 innings, she notched 23 strikeouts. She leads the CCC with a 1.25 ERA and 189 strikeouts.
BASEBALL
Player – College of Idaho’s Diego Robles, a 6-0 senior third baseman from Caldwell, Idaho, had a monster weekend for the Coyotes, helping C of I take three of four games from third-ranked British Columbia. Robles batted .529 with two doubles, three homers and eight RBI’s. He had a four-hit game in the opener featuring a go-ahead three-run homer to help C of I to a 10-7 victory. Robles leads the NAIA West in batting average and RBI’s. Honorable mention: Derek Kirkland, Concordia.
Pitcher – College of Idaho’s Jacob Coats, a 6-0 freshman from Twin Falls, Idaho, pitched a career-high eight innings, picking up a 7-3 victory over No. 3-ranked British Columbia. Coats spaced seven hits and struck out three batters while improving his record to 5-1. Honorable mention: Josh O’Gorman, Concordia.
