PRIMM, Nev. –Led by Sara Taylor, who fired the lowest round of the tournament, Concordia tied for second place as a team at the NAIA National Qualifier held at Primm Valley Golf Club on Tuesday. 

In a field that featured five of the top 13 teams according to the most recent NAIA Women’s Golf Poll, fifth-ranked Concordia (305-298—603) used a 10-over 298 in the second round to move up one spot to tie third-ranked British Columbia (301-302—603) for second place.

Cal Baptist (294-300—594), ranked No. 4 in the NAIA between CU and UBC, led from the gate with a tournament-low 6-over 294 in the first round en route to a nine-stroke win. Cal State-San Marcos (308-305—613), rated No. 11, came in at fourth place, two strokes ahead of No. 13 Victoria (313-302—615).

Representing the Cascade Collegiate Conference, The College of Idaho (336-331—667) finished in sixth, Northwest Christian (359-341—700) seventh and Corban (416-444—860) ninth.

Ending the first day tied for 14th place, Sara Taylor (77-70—147) posted the lone sub-par round over the two-day tournament with a 2-under 70 to leap into a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard.

Taylor, and three others, finished one stroke shy of medalist Nathalie Silva (73-73—146) of Cal Baptist, who fired back-to-back 73s. First-day leader Kylie Barros (72-76—148) slipped to sixth place with a 76 on Tuesday.

Lindsay Aho (74-77—151), last week’s medalist at the CCC Championships, fell three spots in the final tour of the course, but remained in the top 10 with a 7-over 151 for the event.

Kim Lindow (79-74—153) finished as CU’s No. 3 scorer with a 2-over 74 in the final day, jumping four spots to finish in 13th place. A single stroke behind Lindow, Madeline Jarrett (75-79—154) registered finished in a tie for 14th place after sharing 10th through the first 18 holes of play.

Holly Speer (82-77—159) tied for the team’s third best round on the second day and moved up three positions to close in a tie for 21st place.

The Cavaliers will now await the announcement of the qualifiers to the 16th Annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at Meadowbrook Municipal Golf Course in Rapid City, S.D., May 25 – 28. The qualifiers will be announced May 13 at 3:30 p.m. CDT while pairings for the event will be announced on May 14 at 3:30 p.m. CDT.
