VANCOUVER, B.C. -  Ben Rosen tossed a complete game six-hitter in notching his tenth win of the season, as The College of Idaho opened the 2010 NAIA West Postseason Tournament with a convincing 10-4 victory over Oregon Tech at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver, B.C.

The win for the No. 13 ranked Coyotes (37-12) moves them into tomorrow’s winners’ bracket showdown with the winner of today’s British Columbia-Simpson match-up, with first pitch scheduled for Noon (PT). It was the 80th all-time playoff win for the Yotes in their 28th postseason opportunity – dating back to 1940.

The C of I wasted no time getting to OIT (25-29) starter Frank Charlton, as Jordan Lanman led off the first with a single, moved to third on an Izaac Garsez double off the right-field wall, and scored on a Diego Robles sacrifice fly. The Yotes, who recorded their 17th double-digit scoring game of the year, made it 2-0 in the third on a Jared Arehart RBI single.

The Owls would take advantage of a pair of C of I errors in the top of the fifth to tie the game, but Rosen got Trent Smith to fly out to right with the go-ahead run on third, to end the threat.

The Coyotes would blow the game open in the bottom of the frame, batting around for seven runs. Kyle Douglas got the inning going with an RBI single, followed by a two-run double from Jarel Lewis. Ray Santiago had a two-run double, Garsez added an RBI single, with the final tally scored on a wild pitch.

After Tech got a pair of unearned runs in the seventh, the Yotes closed out the scoring in the eighth, as Robles led off with a triple and scored on an Arehart double.

Rosen, who became just the third pitcher since 2000 to record double-digit wins in a season for the Coyotes, recorded his fourth complete game effort of the year, striking out six, without allowing an earned run. Garsez and Robles each had three hits – as the duo has combined for 22 games this season with three-or-more hits. Arehart, Lewis, and Santiago each had two hits in the 15-hit C of I attack, as the Yotes improved to 6-0 this season against OIT.

Colin Stock and Cory Staniforth each had two hits in the loss for the Owls, who will meet the UBC-Simpson loser in an elimination game tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. (PT)
