CALDWELL, Idaho - College of Idaho head volleyball coach Liz Mendiola announced the signing of incoming freshman, Janel Porter, to an NAIA Letter of Intent for the 2010 season.

Porter, a 5-8 libero from Rocky Mountain High in Meridian, becomes the first signee for the Lady Yotes 2010 Class.

A two-time All-Southern Idaho Conference selection, Porter led Eagle High to back-to-back 5A state titles in 2006 and 2007, before moving to nearby RMHS, where she helped the Grizzlies to a fourth-place finish as a junior and a runner-up finish last fall. She recorded a team-high 326 during the 2009 season.

"Janel is one of the top liberos to ever come out of the Boise area,” said Mendiola. “She has passion for the game and is constantly striving to better her play. Janel is one of the most coachable and hardest working athletes I have been around and I can't wait to get her in our gym this fall."

Porter plays for the Idaho Stars Volleyball Club and qualified for the Junior Olympics in 2006 and 2007, while earning Best Receiver and Best Digger Awards at the 2007 Intermountain Region Global Camp.

The four-time defending Cascade Conference champions open fall camp in early August, with their season opener set for late August.
