Directors' Cup: 4 CCC Members Inside Top 50

Cleveland, Ohio – Behind four top-20 finishes in spring sports, Concordia University moved up five spots to No. 12 in the latest NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings.
The Cavaliers scored 272 points in the spring to finish the year with 583 points. The CU women’s golf team and men’s track team placed fifth overall at the NAIA National Championships to score 75 points each. The women’s track team placed seventh for 72 points while the softball team scored 50 points after earning a top seed at the NAIA Championships.
Concordia led four Cascade Collegiate Conference schools near the top of the standings as The College of Idaho (No. 39), Eastern Oregon (No. 43) and Southern Oregon (No. 48) all cracked the top 50.
Also representing the CCC were: Oregon Tech (No. 119), Warner Pacific (No. 138) and Evergreen State (No. 167).
Azusa Pacific (Calif.) recorded three top-10 finishes, capturing the women’s track and field title, placing third in men’s tennis and fifth in women’s tennis to remain the top seed with 962 overall points.
Simon Fraser (B.C.) stayed in second with an overall total of 817 points. The Clan tallied 233.50 spring points after claiming the softball title and placing third in women’s track & field and 24th in men’s track and field.
Fresno Pacific (Calif.) moved into third with a total of 801.75 overall points and was followed by Lindenwood (Mo.) with a total of 766.50 points and Concordia (Calif.) with 724.50 points to round out the top five.
Shorter (Ga.) tallied a spring-high 377.50 points to move from No. 30 to No. 8.
Seven spring NAIA championships have been completed to date with the following institutions capturing titles: British Columbia (Can.) (women’s golf); Oklahoma City (men’s golf); Fresno Pacific (Calif.) (women’s tennis); Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) (men’s tennis); Simon Fraser (B.C.) (softball); Azusa Pacific (Calif.) (women’s track & field); and Wayland Baptist (Tex.) (men’s track & field).
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports – six women’s and six men’s.
The final spring NAIA standings will be released Wednesday, June 23, in conjunction with the 2010 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup luncheon taking place at the NACDA Convention.
