LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University soccer team announced the signing of Rachael Collins for the 2010 season.

Collins, a Boise, Idaho native, was an all-star in the NWAACC her freshman season at Treasure Valley Community College, and all-conference her sophomore season with the Chukars.

“Rachael is a solid defender who plays beyond her size and has good speed, EOU head coach Keith Scarlett said. “She has played at a very high level and will be a strong addition to our current recruiting class.”

Collins was second team All-Southern Idaho Conference her junior year at Mountain View High School in Boise. She was named first team All-Conference her senior season. Collins played soccer three years at MVHS, ran track for two seasons, and played basketball her freshman season.

Collins remembers her best sports memory, “I was playing in a championship game in Pocatello when I was young. We were in a shootout and we were ahead, it was my turn and if I made it we would win the whole thing. I shot and scored, the whole team was running towards me, but I remember seeing my mom running over from the sidelines first. I ran to her and she gave me a huge hug and then the rest of team tackled me, it was pretty great!”

The incoming junior will be an Exercise Science major at Eastern and hopes to be a Physical Therapist in the future.

“I chose EOU because La Grande is really pretty, I can study what I want, play soccer, and it’s close to home,” Collins said.
