SALEM, Ore. – Second-year head volleyball coach Nels Norquist announced Wednesday that he has signed five players for the upcoming 2010 season that includes a freshman quintet from around Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

The Class of 2014 includes Bethany Durre (Bend, Ore.) from Mountain View High School, Alex Matulewicz (Gresham, Ore.) from Centennial High School, Allison Pargeter (Anchorage, Alaska) from Grace Christian School, Olivia Goleman (Days Creek, Ore.) from Days Creek High School, and Brittany Sweet (Tumwater, Wash.) from Tumwater High School.

"With these five freshman, we were able to add some much needed depth with quality student-athletes," commented Norquist. "I am very excited to get our recruits in the gym to join our already young and growing team."

Durre, a 5-foot-4 libero, comes to Corban after playing four seasons at Mountain View High School. While competing for the Cougars, Durre was honored as the team's Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year following her senior season. As a senior, Durre helped lead Mountain View into the second round of the OSAA state playoffs following a runner-up finish during her junior campaign. The two-time co-captain earned 2nd team all-state honors as a junior, while earning 2nd team all-conference recognition during her final season of high school competition.

Along with her high school experience, Durre also competes as part of Rimrock Volleyball Club where she helped lead her team to a Top 10 finish at the Pacific Northwest Qualifier. Durre also earned her team's Most Valuable Player honor defensively.

Matulewicz, a 5-foot-10 right side hitter, will arrive at Corban after four seasons at Centennial High School. As a member of the Eagles' squad, Matulewicz earned All-Mt. Hood Conference honorable mention as a hitter and was named Centennial's Most Inspirational athlete.

Besides her high school accomplishments, Matulewicz also competed at the club level for Alpine Volleyball Club out of Clackamas.

Pargeter, a 5-foot-3 defensive specialist, comes to the Capital City after four years at Grace Christian School in Alaska. While competing for the Grizzles, Pargeter helped lead Grace Christian to a conference title as a sophomore, a third place finish at the state tournament as a sophomore and senior, and a runner-up finish in the state as a junior. Pargeter earned all-conference recognition as a sophomore, junior, and senior, while being named all-state following her junior and senior campaigns.

At the club level, Pargeter has competed during the summer for Midnight Sun Volleyball Club. For five straight years, Pargeter was awarded the opportunity to take part in an invite-only camp for Midnight Sun that helped in her progression towards competing at the club level.

Goleman, a 5-foot-5 defensive specialist, will put on the Warrior uniform next season after playing four years at Days Creek High School. As a member of the Wolves' squad, Goleman helped lead Days Creek to an overall record of 22-5 that included a perfect 12-0 mark in Skyline League play as a senior. Goleman led the Wolves in both kills with 239 and digs with 145 during her senior season, while helping Days Creek win 35 straight league matches to conclude her high school career. During her final season, Goleman was named league MVP, 1st team all-conference, and 2nd team all-state to go along with her Days Creek High School Athlete of the Year award.

Along with her work on the court, Goleman was also named Days Creek salutatorian and also served as the National Honor Society president.

Sweet, a 5-foot-3 setter, comes to Corban after playing four seasons at Tumwater High School in Washington. While playing for the Thunderbirds, Sweet helped lead Tumwater to a win-loss record of 14-2 as a senior following a perfect 18-0 campaign as a junior that included a 2A state title. Sweet earned all-league honorable mention as a junior, while earning 2nd team all-league recognition following her senior season.

Academically, Sweet was a member of the academic state champs as a junior and finished her high school career with a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) and graduated in the Top 10% of her class.

The aforementioned quintet joins fellow Class of 2014 member Bailey Wold, who signed her Letter of Intent in November.

Corban, who returns 10 players from last season's roster, put together a win-loss record of 10-17 last year that included an 8-10 mark in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Warriors will open the 2010 season on Wednesday, September 1st, against NCAA Division III member Lewis & Clark College beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
