NU Signs Eight to Play in 2010 Season

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University’s Head Soccer Coach Erin Redwine announced the signing of eight student-athletes who will play for the Eagles this season. Six freshman and two college transfers with freshman eligibility comprise the group of newcomers.

 
Signing to play for the Eagles are: Kelsey Frasier (Vancouver, Wash.), Kelley Gatlin (Lynnwood, Wash.), Macee Gavett (Edmonds, Wash.), Krista Kellett (Tacoma, Wash.), Elissa King (Preston, Wash.), Nicole Monaghan (Portland, Ore.), and Emma Neustal (Salem, Ore.).
 
Freshman Kelsey Frasier (Forward, Vancouver, Wash.) graduated from Hudson’s Bay High School and earned four varsity letters in soccer and lettered in four varsity sports during her time at HBHS. Frasier was named all-league all four years in soccer and was a 2-year captain of her team. She was also a 2-year captain in basketball and named all-league. Kelsey was MVP in soccer and basketball and named Inspirational award winner in basketball.
 
Kelley Gatlin (Midfielder, Lynnwood, Wash.) is a transfer from Edmonds Community College, a freshman in eligibility and graduated from Kamiak High School in Mukilteo, Wash. While at Kamiak, Gatlin earned varsity letters in soccer, tack & field, and cross country.
 
Macee Gavett (Freshman) is a midfielder from Edmonds, Wash., and played her prep soccer at Meadowdale High School. Gavett was the 2009 team captain for her Meadowdale team and was a Honorable Mention All-League selection in the Wesco South Conference.
 
Midfielder Krista Kellett (Freshman, Tacoma, Wash.) is a graduate of Stadium High School and was a 4-year varsity letter winner for the Tigers and team captain. Kellet also earned two varsity letters in tennis while at SHS.
 
Elissa King (Midfielder, Preston, Wash.) is a transfer from the University of Portland and a graduate of Issaquah High School in Issaquah, Wash. She played her club soccer for the Eastside Football Club and was named a scholar athlete at IHS. King will be a sophomore academically and has freshman athletic eligibility status.
 
Freshman Midfielder Nicole Monaghan is from Portland, Ore., and played her prep soccer at Century High School.
 
Freshman Emma Neustal (Midfielder, Salem, Ore.) is a graduate of Sprague High School earned her varsity letter in soccer and was team captain and 2nd team All-League in 2009. Neustal was also a varsity letter winner in track & field and was named to the Top Ten All-State Academic Soccer Team.
 
Mariah O’Brien is a freshman goal keeper from Gig Harbor, Wash., and Peninsula High School. A two sport varsity letter winner, O’Brien was team MVP, team captain and a 2nd team all-league defender for her soccer team in 2009. She was earned Honorable Mention All-League honors as a goalkeeper in the South Puget Sound League (SPSL). From 2006 to 2009 O’Brien also earned the Outstanding Scholastic/Scholar Athlete Award.
 
“We're excited to have these eight student-athletes joining our strong returning core,” commented Coach Redwine. “New talent combined with maturity is a good mix!”
