KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Four Oregon Tech players combined for 25 kills, as the Owls moved to 7-4 on the season with a non-conference sweep over Simpson University tonight at Danny Miles Court (25-21, 25-23, 25-20). It was the second win in as many tries for Oregon Tech over Simpson this season.

Mikayla Morgan led the Oregon Tech attack with seven kills, followed by Megan Christensen, Mindy Rencher and Jennifer Saltenberger with six each. Sarah Svedin tallied 19 assists with Hannah Brewster adding a match-high 19 digs. Marie Baumann followed with 11 digs to help pace the Owl defense.

Oregon Tech fell behind to begin the match, allowing the Red Hawks to jump to an 8-2 advantage. Tech chipped away and would eventually take a lead after Kristen Walters served 10-straight points to give the Owls a 20-17 advantage. After the 14-2 run, Tech would move on for a 25-21 victory.

Set 2 was more of the same as the Owls once again fell behind early. Tech would tie the set at 8-8, but Simpson rallied to move ahead, 14-8. After a SU 16-13 lead, it was all Oregon Tech. Back-to-back kills by Walters and Rencher would give the home team an 18-16 lead and one they would not relinquish. Simpson battled back from a 24-19 deficit, but a service error ended any hopes of a Red Hawk comeback, as the Owls won the set 25-23.

Both teams battled back-and-forth in set 3, as Oregon Tech only held a slim 16-15 advantage. Oregon Tech pushed the lead to as many as four points, but SU trimmed their deficit to 19-17. Tech put together three-straight points to move on to a five point lead and would eventually hold on for a 24-19 win.

The Owls begin conference play this weekend in Portland with a Friday match at Concordia and Saturday versus Warner Pacific. Both matches begin at 7:00 PM.
