Holgen Leads Raiders Back Against Eastern
ASHLAND, ORE. -- Sarah Holgen went for a career-best 23 kills to lead the 16th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team to a 23-25, 25-11, 25-16, 25-12 victory over Eastern Oregon tonight at McNeal Pavilion. The Raiders improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in Cascade Conference play. The victory sets up a huge matchup with 14th-ranked College of Idaho Saturday night at 7 p.m. at McNeal Pavilion.
Holgen's 23 kills came with only five errors and the junior also added 11 digs. Megan Bartling finished with 12 kills and five blocks, while Leanne Stennett had 10 kills and 25 digs.
Eastern Oregon came out energized in the opening set and held the Raiders to a .189 attack percentage to take the upperhand on the hosts.
After that, the Raiders did most of the damage as they quieted the Mountaineers by holding them to 24 kills and forcing 22 errors over the last three sets.
Holgen almost single-handedly won the second set for the Raiders, scoring four of the final five SOU points with kills. In the third set, SOU went on a 7-3 run to start to pull away and in the third set the Raiders held Eastern to a -.059 attack percentage.
Lindsey Stone led the Raiders with 47 assists, while Renee Yomtob finished with 19 digs and Lauren Swetland had six blocks.
Jessica Lea led Eastern with 10 kills, 16 assists and 12 digs.
