Oregon Tech's Ashton Betts Scored Three Times to Lift the Hustlin' Owls to a 7-0 Win
Betts’ Hat Trick Leads Tech Over Menlo Oaks 7-0
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Freshman Ashton Betts scored three goals and assisted on another to lead Oregon Tech past Menlo College 7-0 Saturday afternoon at Trevor Derrah Field in non-conference action. Oregon Tech evens its record at 2-2 on the season with Menlo slipping to 0-4-1.
Betts got Tech on the scoreboard at the 12:06 mark as he dove head first on a cross from teammate Leo Keiser and headed the ball past the Menlo goalie. Just a minute later Tech’s Dustin Hirata put the home team up 2-0 as he took a pass from Betts and scored in the upper left of the goal.
Betts was at it again, scoring his second goal in the 24th minute as he took his own blocked shot and sent a rocket into the upper left of the Menlo goal to give Tech a 3-0 lead that they would carry into the half.
Betts wasn’t done as he picked up the second half where left the first scoring his third goal of the afternoon on a penalty kick to put The Hustlin’ Owls up 4-0 in the 58th minute.
Gabe Rennels continued the Tech attack taking a pass from Jimmy Hernandez and scored from 20 yards out to make it a 5-0. Just a minute later OIT made it 6-0 as Oscar Alonso-Ayala chipped in a cross from Victor Corona for his first goal of the year.
Corona finished off the scoring as he deposited a bullet into the back of the net in the 86th minute capping Tech’s scoring at 7-0.
The Hustlin’ Owls dominated possession with 30 shots on the afternoon and also held a 15-2 advantage in shots on goal. Tech also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Menlo was whistled for 8 fouls and 4 yellow cards with the home team being called for 7 fouls and no cards.
Oregon Tech will kick off Cascade Conference action next weekend playing at Concordia University Friday, September 17th in Portland, Oregon.
