Red Lion Players of the Week Named

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Nine Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes have earned Red Lion Player of the Week honors in their respective sports following their performances during the last week (Sept. 6-12).
This week's honorees:
Volleyball
Hitter – Sarah Holgen of Southern Oregon University, a 5-10 junior from Honolulu, Hawaii, was named the Red Lion Hitter of the Week. Holgen averaged 4.6 kills per set (32 total) in victories over Eastern Oregon and 14th-ranked College of Idaho. Holgen also had 20 digs on the weekend to average a double-double in kills and digs. She hit .319 for the weekend for the 16th-ranked Raiders. Honorable mention: Chelsie Joyce, Northwest Christian; Lauren Holtz, Northwest; Lauren Bourgeau, College of Idaho; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Mariah Raudsepp, Concordia; Chandra Baskoro, Corban.
Setter – Southern Oregon University’s Lindsey Stone, a 5-9 senior from Ashland, Ore., was named the Red Lion Setter of the Week. Stone finished the weekend with 87 assists – an average of 12.4 per game – to lead the No. 16 Raiders to home wins over Eastern Oregon and No. 14 College of Idaho. Stone, who is averaging 12 assists per set in CCC play, also had 14 digs and four blocks. Honorable mention: Cori Wallace, Northwest Christian; Lauryn Ernster, Northwest; Madie Machurek, College of Idaho; Emily Sampson, Eastern Oregon; Lindsay Mangan, Concordia; Karisa Calderon, Corban.
Libero – Eastern Oregon University’s Kaitlyn Duncan, a 5-5- sophomore from Prineville, Ore., was named the Red Lion Libero of the Week. Duncan posted an incredible 44 digs in a 3-2 victory over Oregon Tech, the second-highest total in the past 18 seasons. Duncan currently ranks second in the CCC with 167 digs. Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Oregon Tech’s Ashton Betts, a 6-0 freshman midfielder from Portland, Ore., was named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. Betts scored three goals and assisted on another as the Owls defeated Menlo College. Honorable mention: Thomas Brempong, Corban.
Defensive – Corban University’s James Myrvold, a 6-4 freshman goalkeeper from Sandy, Ore., was named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. The first-year Warrior registered a combined 17 saves in games vs. Walla Walla and Linfield. Honorable mention: Aaron Reynolds, College of Idaho.
Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Oregon Tech’s Crystal Foster, a 5-7 sophomore from Redmond, Ore., was named the Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. Foster scored six goals in two games, including a four-goal effort in a win over Mills College. Honorable mention: Allie Bissett, Northwest Christian; Abby Brauer, Northwest; Stacy Szeto, Southern Oregon; Jackie Hendrickson, Concordia; Tera McDonough, Corban.
Defensive – Concordia University’s Brittany Orr, a 5-7 junior from Federal Way, Wash., was named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week. Orr, a 2010 first team All-American, helped key shutout victories over Holy Names and Fresno Pacific. She also earned her second assist of the season. Honorable mention: Jessica Kane, Northwest; Alexis Beattie, Corban.
Cross Country
Men – Concordia’s Marcus Nelson, a sophomore from San Diego, Calif., was named the Red Lion Male Cross Country Runner of the Week after opening the season with his first collegiate cross country win. The Cavs’ top finisher at last year’s national championships, Nelson toured the 8K course at McIver State Park in 25:17.07 to win by more than 20 seconds. CU finished second overall, just one point behind the team champion. Honorable mention: Paul Sartin, College of Idaho; Damion Flores, Eastern Oregon.
Women – Eastern Oregon University’s Karlee Coffey, a sophomore from La Grande, Ore., was named the Red Lion Female Runner of the Week. Coffey shattered the course record at the Roger Curran Invitational in Nampa on way to clocking a time of 13:36 over the 4,000-meter course. Coffey’s individual crown was the first of her career. Honorable mention: Brittany Arch, Northwest Christian; Sora Klopfenstein, College of Idaho; Alice Taylor, Concordia.
