Concordia Women Repel Record-Setting Yotes
Day 1 Results
PRINEVILLE, Ore.—Nursing a two-stroke lead over College of Idaho, Concordia was able to add to its lead in the second round of play to capture the team title at the opening event of the Cascade Collegiate Conference season at the Cavalier Classic held at Meadow Lakes Golf Course on Monday.
Led by a 5-over 77 from Samantha Webb (80-77—157) in the second round of play, Concordia (319-322—641) finished with an eight-stroke advantage over College of Idaho (321-328—649) who shattered the school’s single-round record by 10 strokes in the morning session.
The five positions in the CCC standings did not alter after the first round of play as Northwest Christian (339-344—683) finished in third place, Warner Pacific (382-372—754) in fourth and Corban (392-399-791) in fifth.
The field will return tomorrow for another 18 holes to complete the Cavalier Classic. The CCC portion of the event, however, concluded with Monday’s action.
In a battle of top 10 finishers at last year’s NAIA National Championships, the University of Victoria (313-315—628) edged Concordia by seven strokes for the overall first-day lead. The Vikings place ninth at nationals last year while the host Cavaliers of Concordia finished with a program-best fifth-place result at the NAIA Championships last year.
C of I’s Trish Gibbens (71-77—148) fired a school-record 71 in the opening round to take home medalist honors. Concordia’s Webb and Sara Molyneux (77-80—157) tied for second place in the CCC results. UVIK’s Megan Woodland (73-73—146) registered consecutive 73s to secure a two-stroke lead over Gibbens while Woodland’s Victoria teammate Alyssa Herkel (79-75—154) holds down the third overall spot.
All four of CU’s scorers finished in the top 10 as Holli Speer (80-83—163) tied for eighth and Sunshine Powers (82-82—164) tied for tenth place.
College of Idaho’s Baylee Borchers (78-81—159) ended the day in sixth while Northwest Christian’s Ashly King (81-80—161) also snuck inside the top 10 with a ninth-place result.
Warner Pacific was led by Kendall Cowley (91-89—180) and Charli Bolt (90-91—181) with Cowley finishing in 19th and Bolt in a tie for 20th. Katie Baker (95-93—188) led Corban in 23rd place.
